Default speed control/controller

My first entry. I have a 2002 Club Car and the speed is not what it should be. One battery cable melted and once I saw smoke from 1st battery. A "mechanic" wants to put in a new speed controller. Does any one know how to trouble shoot this problem. I have also notice my batteries leaving spots on the pavement. Are they overcooking and could that be my problem.

Some gassing is normal but if they are overfull then they will over flow. This is not the problem with your melted smoking batteries. What does your battery maintenance program consist of?

most "mechanics" usually go to the most expensive part they can think of. Golf Cars, thankfully, usually break the less expensive parts.

Get all your battery issues taken care of before a controller needs replacing. See if your batteries are holding under a load. Are they original batteries? If they are, thats your problem, they would be 7 years old.

Your controller could be bad, but look at everything else first.
