Default Precedent I2 Excel MCOR 2 replacement

Just to double check before I spend the $$$ for a new MCOR 4 and conversion kit.

The cart will not move at all. Batteries fully charged and forward/reverse switch is ok. Run/tow switch is ok.

I get no ohm readings at all between any of the 3 leads from the pot. The on/off switch is functioning.

My pedals are Gen 2, so I think I only need the wiring harness plug conversions.

Is there a way to test the operation of the motor controller without the MCOR? What is the resistance of the internal pot? I have a few around if they match.

Thanks

5K to 0 ohms. Pedal to pedal down. In reality it is about 6K to 200 ohms.

Cool -Let me see what I have.

Thanks

Edit;

On one diagram, it looks like the white and purple are across the 5k, while the yellow is on the adjustable lead. However, another appears to show the white on the adjustable, and the yellow and purple are across the 5k.

Question is... On my 2011 model, is the 5k at rest between the white and the yellow, or the white and the purple?

Oh, BTW... there is a 3 pin connector at the end of the drive motor that is not connected. It appears that there is a speed sensor that is missing. How serious is that?

The speed sensor is a VERY crucial part for an IQ or Excel drive system found on a Precedent. Without the speed sensor circuit connected, the car will run very slowly in a "limp-mode"

You need to find the speed sensor connector in your wire harness and connect it.

Thanks for that.
Yea, I have an I2 Excel

OK, but should I at least be able to get the drive motor to move without it at all? Maybe not full operation, but enough to know that everything else is OK?

I am working through things trying to get the motor to at least twitch and surprised that I am finding more than one thing wrong. I was told that there had not been anyone else looking at it before I got the cart.

1st was the MCOR not reading consistently on the adjustable lead. Then continuing my troubleshooting I hooked up a plain old 5k pot and still nothing. I was not hearing the contactor behind the batteries energizing.
Well, it seems that it is not consistently making contact when I manually energize it. Strange that I was not hearing it click, but I had voltage on the terminal.

I still would like to know with certainty how to connect the 5k pot.

I have a copy of the 2009-2011 Electric Precedent Maintenance and Service Manual. On page 14-6 it shows the yellow wire connected to the adjustable lead on the pot. I assume that is correct, but I came across another manual or two that showed the white wire on the adjustable lead.

Did you test the switch in the MCOR? Its the two pin plug. The switch needs to operate for the controller to engage the solenoid. When an MCOR fails and the cart has no movement, its because the switch has gone bad.

Changes were made across the years. What year is the cart? You need to know the wire diagrams you're looking at are for the correct year.

Yes, the two wire switch works fine. The center wire on the pot gives very ertatic readings.

2011, is the year.

Thanks

It may have an issue but I don't think that will totally prevent the cart from moving.

You mentioned that you only hear the solenoid click sometimes. Make sure you have battery voltage at the solenoid. Do you have the same or very close to the same voltage on both sides of the solenoid when it clicks on?

And since we're on the topic, what is your battery pack voltage?

It is going to be hard to force an Excel Controller to activate the Solenoid unless all voltage levels are correct, that includes the throttle signal since the MCOR micro-switch by itself does not control the Solenoid.

Setup for Cart:
  • Lift one rear wheel OFF the ground.
  • Turn Key switch ON.
  • Put FNR in forward.

Set Your meter to 200vDC.

All references to +48v are nominal voltages and mean actual pack voltage.

Take all readings on the back of the controller connector in reference to pack negative.
Pin #6 - Green Wire (pedal microswitch) +48v once You press the pedal.

pin #5 - Light Blue wire (OBC lockout) +48v.

Pin #10 - Tan Wire (key switch) +48v once Key switch is ON

Pin #9 - Gray wire (RUN Mode) +48v if tow/run switch is on Run

Pin #16 - Blue (Forward direction) +48v when FNR is on Forward.

Pin #2 - Yellow (MCOR wiper) Pedal up to pedal down should go from 0.35v to 4.65v (approximately).
