DS 48v Series Key On Circuit
Hey folks. I have a 2001 DS 48v Series cart that we're upgrading. I have a 48v to 12v reducer feeding a fuse panel for the headlights, illuminated switches and outlets. I have the reducer output run through a 30A relay as i only want the fuse panel powered when the key is on. The problem I'm having is that i tried tapping the key switch circuit but it won't power the relay. Maybe not enough voltage?? Anyhow, I've wracked my brain and the wiring diagram trying to find another key-on, key-off circuit to use but have had no luck. I hoping someone has some insight on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: DS 48v Series Key On Circuit
I have relayed of the switch many times and no problems. Are you sure you are using a 48v relay?

Re: DS 48v Series Key On Circuit
Describe where you have each wire going. Is this a replacement for a factory reducer?

Re: DS 48v Series Key On Circuit
Here's how I had it and it wasn't working. Its an aftermarket 48-12v reducer.

Re: DS 48v Series Key On Circuit
You wired the 48v switched supply "through" the relay instead of "to" the relay. Add you Neg to the other side and it will close in when you turn the switch on and pass the input power to the converter.

Re: DS 48v Series Key On Circuit
Your relay works like a breaker or circuit interrupter. You have the 48v Input power for the converter running "through" the relay once it closes. You supply the switched power from the cold side of your key switch to the relay and then you supply the Negative. Then when you turn on the key switch the relay will close and allow the 48v Input power to flow through the relay and to your converter.
Look at the picture....... |
