Default How to remove steering wheel-89ClubCar?

Just bought my first cart and am trying to install a new dash, but can't figure out how to remove the steering wheel. I removed the scorecard plate & removed the nut underneath it as well but cant get the wheel to budge. Is there something else that needs to be loosened? or could it just be stuck due to age? I tried hammering the wheel from underneath & also tried pulling the wheel straight off but no luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

Good luck... That can be the toughest thing to take off!!! You did it the right way. Try to spray some lubricant on it and let it set over night, then brake out the bfh! I have broken many wheels in my days!

Back the nut up to where it is just above the shaft threads. Use a brass hammer or something similar and set it on top of the nut. Strike the brass hammer with a bigger hammer while someone else pulls upward on the wheel. The wheel has a spline and a taper. The taper is what makes them hard to get off. I believe you can get a puller for them, maybe sponsors? I have never used one though.

Good Luck...

I also do this! Like dirty said back the nut off, but also put your feet on the dash with your knees on the back steering wheel and apply pressure while tapping the nut with a hammer!

Depending on your assortment of air tools, I use a air hammer or some call it a burp gun. Put your knees under the wheel on each side and pry up while using a pointed chisel in air hammer in center of steering shaft.

If you are going to use your knees and a hammer with a block, put a thick blanket or pillow in your lap AND SAFETY GLASSES!!!
DO NOT HIT A HAMMER WITH A HAMMER!!!!!!!!!!
That's all I will say as to why I went to the air hammer!!!!
