charger or charging computer
Hi,
I have a 2003 48v club cart, DS model. It worked fine but today after running the batteries about half down tried to charge nothing happened. I need to figure out how to bypass the computer to see if its the charger or the computer. I checked the fuses and they are fine. I did note the top pin in the charger connector is about half way back. I figure this is what controls the charger but I don't know if its a ground of 48 volts. I think it has to be a ground because if the batteries are dead no 48 volts. Last edited by Drrip; 03-31-2009 at 01:09 AM.. Reason: correct terminology |

Re: charger or controller
The computer turns the relay on, so bypassing the relay doesn't necessarily bypass the computer. The easiest thing to do is find a friends charger or car and narrow down the problem...
on the the real help: Inside your charger you have a circuit breaker and a relay.. AC power comes into the circuit breaker leaves, enters the relay, and comes out of the relay into the transformer. The relay has 4 wires, two smaller studs, and two larger studs. The two larger are the circuit breaker and transformer wires. Disconnect the wire going to the relay from the circuit breaker, and then connect the transformer wire going to the relay directly into the circuit breaker. Plug your car in, car first, then wall. If it works, then most likely you need one of those relays. It is the most common charging problem of 48v club cars. It is the problem around here 9 out of 10 times. The likely hood of it being the issue is increased greatly by storms. If it sounds like it is trying but the meter is not coming up, then you probably need a computer... g'luck. |
