New Cart....Will I be Happy?
Good evening all! My first cart will be ready this week and I just don't know what to think. It is a 2004 CC IQ with a 6" Jakes lift, 22" tires and an Allrax 500A controller. I am used to being on Yamaha Rhinos and Kawasaki Mules. I told the people who are building it that I wanted it to have the ability to carry a couple of people and 2 or 3 hundred pounds of corn and still climb hills. Am I asking too much or is this likely with this setup? Do I need an upgraded torque motor? Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

Re: New Cart....Will I be Happy?
I think you may be asking alot from the stock motor to carry 2 full sized adults and a couple hundred pounds uphill, but I wouldn't even think about it until you get the cart and try it out for awhile. If you need motor work, Call PLUMQUICK (look on internet) and talk to Robbie, he will tell you exactly what they can do and what to expect, and they have a great product and customer service, all at an awesome price. You are alreadu ahead of the game with a 500A altrax controller installed.

Re: New Cart....Will I be Happy?
Blayne, EMP builds a nice 2 speed motor. 1 mode is torque and the other is speed. Best of both worlds. Makes the buying decision allot easier and I think you'll be happier.
Thats http://www.empinc.biz. Ask for Chuck or Andrea. You can also get the EMP motor from MikemotorToys, one of the site sponsors. I won't run a PQ motor.....but thats me. |

They have the shunt motor listed on their site. http://www.empinc.biz/services.php
Not sure on the switchable either. Also, D&D builds some of the best motors on the market. |

Re: New Cart....Will I be Happy?
Scubabud - You've just about sold me on the PQ (in another thread) and I'm ready to buy but I have another question. I hunt in the Texas Hill Country, and the East Texas swamps, and I need something that will climb decent hills, nothing crazy, and go through moderate mud, again nothing too crazy. Will the PQ give me any extra torque over what I have now, which is an 04 IQ on level 3?
Thanks |

When I was in Ft Wilderness I had to load my cart on my trailer and the ramps were at a steep incline, down farther the normal since they were setting in a hole. With the cart on the ramps it didn't want to go forward very well. I needed to back down the ramps, nail it and keep the pedal down until it was on the trailer which was level. I would call PQ and let them know what you are looking for as well as vendors right here on this site. In other words, do it right the first time. I hope this helps |

Scuba, It sounds like your PlumQuik Motor has left you with a serious power deficiency. Personally I would find this lack of performance unacceptable. I am surprised considering how often I have heard you recommend this set up to other members? I have gotten much better performance from the old stock 36 volt motor run on 48v where you get gains in torque and speed.

Re: New Cart....Will I be Happy?
Allot of people read these posts about motor reccomendations but what people don't realize is some of these guys have NOTHING to compare it too. They go from "stock" to something else and all of a sudden it's gods gift to the golf cart community. During the upgrade some even upgrade to 48 volts. Unless you do a side by side comparison you can't say one is better than the other. I personally will not reccomend PQ to anyone....(but thats me!)
To add to scottys comment....I too found the stock motor on high voltage was far better than the high speed motor before it. Stock 36 Volt , it plain sucks....at 48 volts your looking at a 20-25% INCREASE in power across the board. Stock motors respond well to the voltage increase.....specifically the low end torque. Also, the additional voltage increases RPM. If you haven't done so already, I would try the 48 volt upgrade first. You already have the controller to do it. I don't think you'll find what your looking for on 36 volts. |
