regenerative brakes for 97 club car
I'm new at this but was curious about regen braking systems . After driving a street legal cart here in Miami I heard that newer cart could be had with regen brakes . If so can they be adapted to older (97) carts. I'm sure they are expensive but these rear wheel mechanical brakes simply do not cut it .
Any tips ? |

Regen brakes are not what you are thinking. You will have to SWAP ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL over from the donor cart. Regen brakes do not work off of the braking system.

O.K.... I'll spell it out...
The forward/reverse switch/lever... Is it a shifter? (not regen) or is it a rocker switch? (regen) IMO... the regenerative braking system is: when you coasting down a hill... with no throttle... The cart will start to slow itself down, What that does is, it uses the motor as a generator, (and a brake) and resupplies a small amount of current back to your batteries, in a way, the motor recharges your batteries, but... a very small amount! a "Jake Brake" if you will!  |

there are 4 wheel braking kits, that is probably what you need.

No offense PT... but, a 4 wheel braking kit on a stock cart???

I have a 97 regen, can someone explain why it is called a "regen", and how does the motor become a generator as it coasts? or do I have that wrong ? Thanks

DC motors can op as gen when the motor is spun not drawing power, in slows cart by the load the gen then puts on the wheels.
