Default Battery Issues - Club Car

I recently noticed that my digital battery meter just shows 3 lines (- -.-v) Instead of a reading (ex 52.0v). I tested each battery which are Trojan 8V T-875's and they each read 11.5V. This is really high and I do not know why. The cart has been unplugged for over 1 week and I even drove around the hood. I tested again and still 11.4, 11.5 for all 6. Plates look great fluid level is great, no idea what would have caused this.

I have a 2011 Club Car IQ and a PowerDrive 3 charger.

What do you think the issue may be?

I called Trojan and he said if it is the OBC that he recommended I buy an OBC Bypass charger instead of a new OBC. He said the only job the OBC was good for was counting charges for warranty reasons.

You must have talked to the receptionist at Trojan, really, you tell them their 8v battery reads 11.5v at rest and all they can say is blame the obc...

What are You using to read each battery, the same meter that shows --.-?

I talked to Rick Sanders. He's the regional manager of east coast of FL. He said he was a club car mechanic for 12 years or so.

I am using a volt meter. I tested each with tow 'on' and each with tow 'off'. All are identical readings but very high.

I do not have a load tester unfortunately.

What do you suggest?

Was the charger running when You measured?

Are You sure they are 8v (4 holes)?

The fact the person did not question your readings on a 8v battery and just blamed some other component gives them no credibility regardless what they say they know.

An 8v battery cannot retain that voltage unless it is being overcharged at the time you read the voltage.

if You are sure they are 8v batteries, change the batteries on your meter or borrow a different meter.

Edit:

Another suggestion, go measure the voltage on your car or truck battery to see if the meter is accurate.

Borrow a digital volt meter from someone else. I suspect it's failed in some way or needs a battery. You are using the DC 20v scale, right? The odds of six severely/equally overcharged batteries is extremely small - especially if they've sat for a while (even 12 hrs is lots).

100% sure they are 8V (pic Attached)

I haven't charged them in over a week. Cart was unplugged when tested

I'll have to double check my volt meter. I'll get back to you in a few hours with the result. I hope its the meter but its just odd that my digital dash meter is reading --.- instead of 52.0 or similar.

Whatever the outcome the Club Car chargers are a piece of crap and should be replaced with a Smart Charger.

Great news, changed out the batteries of the volt meter and it now reads 8.5 across the board. Thank you all.

The in dash meter picture is attached. Do you think it needs replaced? I probed the terminals on the back of it and got 51 which is accurate. But, it still shows three lines.

Before you replace the gauge, disconnect the pack positive and negative cables and leave them off for a few minutes before reconnecting them and see if that doesn’t reset the meter. Many of these digital meters are designed to work with multiple pack voltages 72, 60, 48, 36, 24, and 12, etc. If your pack voltage drops below the next lowest range, the meter will drop range accordingly. When you recharge the pack, the meter will display dashes which indicated an out of range condition. HTH
