Anyone regret a lift and larger tires on an electric cart?
Considering a 6” lift and larger tires on my 2004 Club Car DS w/IQ. I am putting in brand new batteries today. Was wondering if anyone regretted buying the parts, should I just stay stock?

Re: Anyone regret a lift and larger tires on an electric cart?
I see people regretting putting too big a tire on the cart. Bigger tires amount to an increase in the rear end gearing which increases the motor work load and decreases torque. Too big of a tire will hinder hill performance.
People come to me to fix this issue every day. Most of them have Sepex drive systems like your IQ. The Series drive carts like the persons that responded to your question have are not as susceptible to the issue because that motor makes more torque by design. With the stock 2004 IQ motor I would use a XCT400 controller and 20" tires anywhere or 22" on mostly flat hard ground. Any bigger than that or 4 passengers or hills and the torque loss will be significant. (22" tires reduce torque by 22%) Keep this in mind. They used to say, form follows function. Where will you be using the cart? Will you encounter ruts or obstacles [rocks/fallen branches or deep snow] that will cause the cart to get hung up as it is now? If so you will need a lift. But a lift comes with handling differences. It will NOT corner "like it's on rails" as it does now. Also the power issues that Scotty pointed out. Just some food for thought.

Re: Anyone regret a lift and larger tires on an electric cart?
I put a 6” a arm lift on my precedent with 23” my only speed upgrade now is the alltrax 500 controller. If I was not going to put a torque motor in it I would have stayed with the 3” lift and the 20” tires. I am hoping the motor will bring back the torque for me. Here is the before and after pictures

Re: Anyone regret a lift and larger tires on an electric cart?
Personally - I prefer using a non lifted cart with 20s around the ranch and on most off the road use.
1. they are easier to slip in and out of 2. they have more power. 3. they handle better - turn sharper circles But yeah there is that look thing 20's fit on most all stock carts. |

Re: Anyone regret a lift and larger tires on an electric cart?
So in the spirit of this discussion.....how much would I have to cut fenders to put 20 inch tire on a stock height 02 club car ds? If I should start another thread, I do apologize.
