13 club car dash wiring spark...no start
So... I was trying to install a batter gauge on my 13 club car precedent. I pulled the dash and found and extra red wire and black wire near the key with open connection ends. I put my voltmeter on the wires and almost melted the tip of my probe. Not sure what happened but small arc and the cart wont run anymore. Suggestions? Is there a fuse or something I can check?

Is this a Precedent?
And you really should have been in "Tow" when messing with anything electrical to protect the controller.... |

Yes sir precedent. Is wasn’t in tow, I know... smh. Currently when I put the key in and turn I don’t have voltage at the switch. I also don’t have a reverse buzzer. When I depress the pedal it doesn’t move of course and I hear no noise at all.

There is a Blue wire that runs from the sonic weld up to the Run/Tow switch and then comes out the switch as a Pink wire and goes to a Fuse pack (Red wire and Pink Wire). Open that fuse pack and cross your fingers..... (Disconnect the Main Pack Neg and the flip the switch to Tow while troubleshooting the wiring....)

Glad it worked out. Anytime you are touching that system with a probe or anything similar, place it in "Tow". If you are working on anything; installing a switch, converter, gauge, etc. Always go to "Tow", then disconnect the MPN cable, then when done, go back in reverse order....
A controller will run you $350 min and upwards of $500 based on style and amperage. |

Re: 13 club car dash wiring spark...no start
Thanks for the help and the advice. I’m new to this. I’ve built classic cars but never worked on a golf cart. Admittedly I’m more of a wrencher and less of an electrical guy. Was I wrong to assume the red wire was 48v pos and black was my neg? I guess I could run new wires from the battery main pos and neg to my switch but that’s more time consuming of course.
Glad I found this forum! Looks like I found a new home for good advice as well as reading up on common issues and potential mods. |

I will share something with you that you probably heard before with automotive repair, but with golf carts, and especially the electrical, never assume anything...
When I probe wires that I do not have a schematic for or of an unknown origin, I use my meter with one lead only..... Meaning I clip onto the main pack negative with my black probe and then use my red probe to check the wires. You can also get you a 48v test light probe.... |
