Volt meter recommendation

Based on Nole's recommendation I bought a Victron. The one I got is the BMV702 with a Bluetooth dongle so that you can view the measurements on your phone through the Victron app. The 702 can also measure the centre point of the pack to help keep an eye on the pack balance. It's not cheap, I got one on eBay for about US$160 with the dongle (you can probably get it cheaper in the States). It will fit in your hole but I understand that many people think it is an overkill and too expensive. It works very well though and is great if you want to really see what your batteries are doing.

When you think about it if a meter of that expense helps you lengthen the life of an expensive battery pack by even a few months it has paid for itself.

I agree.

I spent CAN$2000 (US$1500) on my battery pack ... best to not look after them with a $10 meter.

Unequivocally the Victron BMV's are worth the money. It is not a meter, it is a battery management solution....

With all due respect, calling it a "battery management solution" may not be the correct description, as I don't believe that it is interactive with the batteries. Perhaps a "Battery Monitor" ... but a super-duper one at that.

Lol! No disrespect taken.... I call it that because that is what it does for me. With its shunt and intuitive algorithm it allows me to "manage" my pack in a way that provides me much more information then my BMS does. I know what I am using with the current load, what I have left to use, where the voltage is, the wattage, max amperage, etc, etc. I have several of these on various carts and on equipment at work.

If it had not installed my Blue Sea amp x volt meter already, I would have have been shopping hard for a Victron BMV

That is both of us.... Yawood has all those retirement $'s.... He got the fancy shmancy bluetooth BMV-702. All us po-folks just get the 700....
