2008 Club Car Precedent Runs with disconnected solenoid
I've been working on a friends 2008 Club Car Precedent (electric) that has been running intermittently. This is the strange part. If I disconnect the 2 large cables from the solenoid terminals and the put the run/tow switch to "run", turn the ignition key to "on", put forward/reverse selector to either forward or reverse, and then press the accelerator pedal down the solenoid actuates and the cart moves. This is with the 2 large cables disconnected from the solenoid. Has anybody experiences this? How can the solenoid be energizing the motor?

The solenoid would actuate as you have the control inputs at the small posts. The movement should have only been momentarily as that was from the capacitors in the controller discharging voltage to the motor.....

Re: 2008 Club Car Precedent Runs with disconnected solenoid
I'm interested in this myself! If the resistor is still attached, it could move slightly with the energy stored in the capacitors in the controller like Nole said. That's the only thing I could figure.

Re: 2008 Club Car Precedent Runs with disconnected solenoid
That's what I'm thinking too. I think it's probably an early 2008 with 4x12V batteries. In these models, the pre-charge resistor plugs into the pigtails on the two 6 gauge wires that connect to the solenoid. So it's very easy to disconnect the solenoid while leaving the resistor in place. I wouldn't be surprised if it got extremely hot while trying to run the car.

Re: 2008 Club Car Precedent Runs with disconnected solenoid
The cart does have (6) 8-volt batteries. There was a resistor across the 2 large terminals. I had removed this resistor when I disconnected the cables from the large terminals. The cart moved while I was doing a solenoid check to see if the solenoid was bad. So the distance that it move was only a few feet. I was not aware of the capacitors in the controller. It does make sense that if the capacitors discharged while I depressed the accelerator the cart would move. I'm going to replace the solenoid with a new one that I ordered and see what happens. Thanks for the responses.
