Club Car Roof What struts do I need?
I have an 1983 CC DS.
I was gifted this roof by a neighbor but It won't fit my cart I was told I would need new as they called them "candy canes" I think they mean the struts. What is your suggestion on how to get my new gifted roof to fit? Suggestions on what to do with this roof. Last 2 photos are of new gifted roof. Please excuse the mess as I am in the process of wiring the cart for turn signals and break lights. The roof was in bad shape and was cracked so my neighbor gave me the one they had to replace mine. This is one they had on their cart but they decided to go a different route...they added an extended roof to their cart as they added a rear seat. Unless someone has the exact answer (I do not) then give David Hicks a call at Revolution Golf Cars and should be able to tell you what is required since it is two different generations of golf carts.

NoleFan4Ever thank you for your reply,
I wish I knew what year Generation the roof was as I would just buy the struts for that roof. I came here as I wasn't able to figure it out. Thank you I will keep in mind to call David Hicks if push comes to shove. |

Re: Club Car Roof What struts do I need?
Looks like a roof for a Precedent, not a DS. Rear strut attachment is different. I've got a pipe bender in the shop and "create" some of what I need when I'm fitting used tops to different carts. This one may take a rather custom approach.

The new and old styles on a DS will interchange. Might have to drill holes. I don't know what that top came off of.

I know a few guys who do custom carts in the area but I was trying to not call in favors.
I believe their cart was a Precedent but its a Gas Cart. |

Re: Club Car Roof What struts do I need?
Gas or electric doesn't matter, but DS vs Precedent does matter. On the DS the rear struts mount to the roof similar to the front: a channel molded into the underside of the roof to accept the end of the bar horizontally into the roof. On the Precedent the bar ends vertically into the roof. If you look at the "new" (to you) roof it has the square openings at the rear to accept the vertical posts and the horizontal channels for the fronts. The front mounting points will also be narrower than the windshield frame you have.

Exactly. And you will be much better off finding one for a DS than modifying everything to fit that top. If not in too bad shape, you could make the one you have look like new. |

Re: Club Car Roof What struts do I need?
There is no easy way to do it. Nobody makes any adapter brackets or anything of that nature for such a swap. The old top is an old-style DS top and the new one is from a Precedent. It's like putting a hood from a Mustang on a Thunderbird. If you modify it enough, you can make it work.

Re: Club Car Roof What struts do I need?
I have a Precedent roof on my DS.
You'll need to modify the the mounting attachments to make it work with your existing struts. I can be done cheaply and easily. I used some 1" square aluminium in the front groove of the Precedent roof then attached 1" angle aluminum to that to make line up with my front struts. You will need to drill new holes in the strut to mount them. bracket.jpg For the rear I had to trim about an inch off of each end of the strut to make them fit, then drilled new mounting holes in the Precedent roof and used the old hardware to attach it. rear.jpg Been on for a few years now without any issues. It's more rigid than the old style DS roof and good for mounting a light bar without any vibration issues. Plus, I liked the grab handles too. front.jpg |
