Question about upgrading controller

I've got a 2002 DS series cart. It's pretty darn slow. It's got a D & D motor in it. I'm wondering what will I get, performance wise, by upgrading the controller only? Should I start with a motor upgrade like the PQ Bandit?

If you already have a D&D Motor (check the tag at the motor) then your next best upgrade would be the controller. Here they are https://www.revolutiongolfcars.com/c...-controllers-1 and I would look at a 500a or 600a so I have all the ability I can get. You can custom tune it up or down with the Alltrax Tool Kit.

With a series car such as yours, speed is determined by the motor and the voltage. Amperage doesn't play a big factor into determining overall top speed. Added amperage of a bigger controller will provide that same motor with more torque and the ability to climb hills without as big of a drop-off in speed but the overall top speed will not be affected enough to mention. It's worth mentioning that the PQ Bandit for the series car will not yield anywhere near the same results that you're reading about the Bandit on the IQ or Excel system.

What do you mean by the Bandit reference? I'm looking for about 22mph with factory components. Will the bandit not give me that?

Do you have a lift? Larger tires? back seat, etc. Did you check the tag to see which motor you have? How old are your batteries? All these play into it and is why I said look into a controller. If that is not a D&D or your pack is old, need to look another direction.

If you have a D&D motor, you should already be seeing more over a pure stock series motor as even the torque motors are ~usually at least as fast or close to it. But the problem I find is OP's place bigger tires on their cart, a lift kit, and a back seat and does not understand why it will not run as fast as it did and it is usually the controller is the weak link in supplying the amperage needed (torque/power) to achieve what was there before the larger tires, lift and heavier rolling force.

That is a 10.1 HP "Speed" motor and is all you need on that cart. Now you need a controller to get you there. Here is infor from D&D below:

Club Car Series @ 48 VDC
D&D 170-003-0002 Recommended Alltrax Controller

MPH Approx % Change in Torque
Speed Motor SR48400 22mph 10%
Speed Motor SR48500 22mph 20%
Speed Motor SR48600 22mph 30%

* (Reference: D&D Motors Specification)

Note- Larger tires will result in more speed.....

Factory motor will give you 12-14 MPH. A Bandit series motor will net 16-18MPH on factory tires. This has been my experience every time I've installed one on a series car.
