1986 has a 5 solenoid speed control system. Jack a wheel off the floor and with the seat off press the pedal slowly and confirm each solenoid is clicking 1-5. and the wheels are turning progressively faster at each click 2-5

So it works in F but not R.
Forward is 36v and reverse is 18v in these old carts. Check the battery voltage for all 6 batteries individually and post it here >

They are brand new trojan batteries it works in forward IF you depress the pedal slow enough to listen to each solenoid otherwise it will still lunge when it hits the 5th one

That is correct. Solenoid #1 is a master, simply opening the supply to all the solenoids.
But solenoid # 3 should work the same in both F and R ?

Does it have a stock motor or does it have a speed motor .I have the same cart with a speed motor does the same thing your describing.Starts off normal but when you hit the fourth speed it goes.If you floor it in the gravel will spin the wheels with the stock motor was slow like 13 miles per hour
