Battery life?
48v precedent, crown 12v batteries dates are E17. My pack is not giving good distance. All cells test good. Connections Snug and clean. DPI charger, obc bypassed. 12.8 ea after charge, 12.2 after about 2 mile drive flat surface. What do I need to look for

Re: Battery life?
Probably the batteries are going south.
The 12V batteries don't have the capacity to run long distances and are usually run below the recommended minimum of 50% SOC. Going below 50% shortens the battery life considerably. The plates in a 12V battery are also thinner, which gives them a shorter overall lifespan since the thickness of the lead plates determines how many times they can be cycled. Thicker plates = more cycles. So it's pretty common for the 12V batteries to last only a few years. If those batteries have ever been deeply discharged, or have been neglected at any point in the past by leaving them discharged for long periods or running low on water level, they're pretty much done and need to be replaced. A good upgrade is to change to Six 8V batteries, rather than using four 12V. More lead, longer run times, longer battery life. Usually this requires modification to the battery trays. It's a fairly common upgrade on the Precedent, so there are several DIY how-to threads floating around here. |

Re: Battery life?
I just got 10 years out my last set of US 12v batteries. My distance was always very good and I never had an issue with them. I have had several 4x12's and enjoyed them very much. FT4M might not have had the luck I have had. As far as your pack, have you owned it since installed? Good maintenance practices? I know your charger is good, but what is your Pack Voltage 12 hours after you have completed the charge? What is the pack voltage when you accelerate hard?
You can hook your DVM up and lay it on the seat. |

Re: Battery life?
I purchased these new in 2017. I have kept water up, terminals are all clean. I use the cart and charge. It was something that seemed to happen very sudden. I was thinking maybe a brake was dragging but I've taken them off and inspected. These are crown batteries so I am not super pleased at this point. I will test with dvm. What should each battery show under full load?

Re: Battery life?
It is not per battery as much as it is the pack. If the pack reveals a problem, then you check individual batteries.
General rule of thumb is 5vdc on the light side and 8vdc on the heavier side. This would just be the initial "drop" from the surge caused at take of when fully depressed. Then it should come back rather quickly. Be sure your DPI is set to the correct batteries. It probably is, but you want to make sure. |

Re: Battery life?
Did a test, pack was at 53v after charge, dropped to 51 overnight. Driving around dropped to 43 lowest. Slowly came back to 50v then dropped from there.

Re: Battery life?
I'm thinking these are just crappy batteries, I've done everything I can to get full life and they are only almost 2 years

Re: Battery life?
Overnight is good, but the drop is a little severe. I am surprised as Crown is a reputable company, but those could be a low A/H type. I have always used US's in my 4x12's and Trojans once. I have used Crown on 8v's with no problem at all. Very comparable to US and Trojan in my opinion.
I would use them until they cannot meet my needs, but in regards to your cart, maintenance and charger, you have done everything correctly. |

Re: Battery life?
Update : I had my pack tested at 2 battery shops and a golf cart shop. They said they had a 33 min runtime. So I found a shop that would warranty them for cheap and bit the bullet and got a new pack. After charging and running them I'm having the same issue. It used to run and run and barely drop any voltage. Is there any thing I can look at now?

Re: Battery life?
I may be late to the game to say that Crown has a full 3 year warranty.
You call them and find out...about their warranty. BTW what is the amp hour rating on those 12v batteries? Did the pack have enough amperage to carry the day? |
