93 Club Car 0-full speed
I recently purchased a 1993 electric Club Car. The problem: when the accelerator is pressed it goes from a crawl to full speed. Not sure what part is bad. Been reading about speed controllers, etc. but don't know where to start. Very new to the cart world. Would appreciate suggestions on how to repair.

Re: 93 Club Car 0-full speed
First off, you'll want to post more info or possibly pictures of your cart. Since it is a 1993 I would assume it is 36v and equipped with the v-glide system, and resistor coils. This uses a slide and contacts to pass current through from the battery pack to the motor.
However, you've got a pretty old cart (not necessarily a bad thing...) but over all those years, it's probably had several owners. It's quite common for people to upgrade those to newer solid state (controller based) system and cut out the toaster coils, convert the v-glide with resistors to work with a controller, etc. and/or convert to a 48v system even. There's a ton of possibilities and without knowing exactly what you've got in your cart it's difficult to provide any type of troubleshooting guidance. If you can provide some pictures of what's under the seat, it may provide some helpful information. particularly around the black box on the driver's side mounted to the frame rail (that's the v-glide box, attached to the accelerator pedal and a wiper switch and a bunch of contacts inside there the wiper contacts to vary speed). |

Re: 93 Club Car 0-full speed
93 and 94 36V DS carts were controller carts for the most part as I understand. 95 was when the 36V DS carts went exclusively resistor and the controller carts were all 48V. My 94 DS 36V is a controller cart although I have converted to 48V.
The symptom described sounds like V-Glide multi step potentiometer issue. If one of the resistors in the pedal assembly breaks, the cart will take off at full throttle as the throttle is set up as a 0-5k Ohm two wire setup. Later throttles went to the 5k-0 setup for safety reasons. If this is a controller cart, disconnect the white and black wires from the V-Glide and check with an Ohm meter at the pedal side. It should read low Ohms and slowly increase to just under 5k Ohms at full throttle. An open reading would indicate a broken resistor. HTH |
