Default Replacing on board charging computer

Hello. New member here. Need to replace the on board charging computer on a 97 model 48v club car, and had a couple of questions.

The red battery LED stays on most of the time, and the charger will not kick in when you plug it up sometimes. It evidently does charge as the cart still will run 18 holes without trouble. Local cart guy says OBC needs replacing. He says part is $300. I found one online for $156.00 new.

How easy is this to do? I am fairly mechanically inclined and think I can do this and save money by not paying someone else to do this.

Can you get to the computer without having to take body off of cart?

Any suggestions that would make this fairly easy for me to take care of?

Thanks in advance.

Bob

if you have no accessories on your car i.e. seat kit or box, it should be pretty easy to accomplish.

OBCs should be somewhere in the $200 range.. unless he is buying the part from a dealer and reselling he is getting a high markup.

replacing it is really not that hard.

The work sometimes, not work the others makes me wonder about connections on your car such as the little grey wire on the charging receptacle..

listen when you plug the charger in should turn on then a klick will be heard in power supply resetting the obc it will turn off then turn on that lets you know charger is working correctly! if your charger dosent shut off that could be other problems check both fuses one inside batt compartment both have yello boot the other one is at the obc good luck what ever you do dont change your negative wire going thru the obc it will screw up your charger!!

Thanks for the replies guys. Let me try to explain it a little better than I did in the first post. The red light on the dash will come on when you turn the key on and put it in forward. If you are sitting still the light stays lit. When you push the pedal and start moving forward after about four or five seconds the light will go off. When you stop it comes back on.

As for the charger, it does not kick in when you plug it up like one normally would. I have stood for thirty seconds and it never kicks in. It has to come on at some time, though, because the cart still will make 18 holes without a problem.

One thing I forgot to mention in the original post is that the batteries are 03 batteries, and are probably going to need replacing. We are just hoping to get through this summer with them, then trade the cart in on another one.

Anyone else????
