2016 Club Car X2 Plus won't charge after incident
Hello Folks:
My 2016 Club Car X2 Plus is pretty sick and I think it is due to my error. I know enough about carts to be dangerous but I have done all I know to do and baby won't budge. I appreciate whatever help you can give me. My wife and her girlfriends took the cart out on two consecutive nights for long drives and I don't think it got charged on the night between. Second night they ran out of juice on the way home so I took the truck and went to get them and pull the cart back. I do not believe I flipped the tow switch. So I am pulling the cart and part of the return is on a double lane county highway and as soon as I pulled out I saw a car coming up behind so I picked up the speed and drove most of about a mile pulling the cart at 35 mph. We get to the driveway I untie the cart and drive it into the garage and the cart starts making a loud grinding noise and it smells like burnt rubber - strong. The smell is coming from underneath the cart - and not from tires. Since then and through today nothing comes on - no battery indicator or lights, nothing and the charger does not kick on. I tried another charger to no avail and I charged each of the batteries, first for 10 mins each, then 20 mins each and then 30 mins each trying to get the batteries enough in them to take a charge but it did not happen. I was able to inspect everything with the help of bright sunlight today and I did not see anything burned or wires loose or anything out of sorts. Any ideas before I take it to the dealership and give them an arm and a leg? Thanks again, Mike |

GOOD NEWS!!! You now have the perfect excuse to upgrade your cart. New high amp controller, new motor, and new batteries and cables
I would not have a repair shop just repair it. It will likely cost more than an upgrade. That's just my thoughts. |

Re: 2016 Club Car X2 Plus won't charge after incident
As you traveled at 35mph, and if you have stock size tires, that would equate to about ~8000 rpm's on the motor that should only turn 5000/5500 at most. With it being in "Run", the motor brake was engaging the entire time so you have more than likely damaged the motor and not sure about the controller. If you are handy, pull the motor off and inspect it. You will more than likely see the damage as you disconnect the cables and/or open it up.

Thank you Mr. Golf and Nolefan. I will do as you indicated (NF) and then will report back. I don't want to know how much a new motor is because I'd like to sleep some this weekend :)

BTW Before you pull the motor or do anything to the electric part of your cart Please put the cart in TOW and unhook the main negative and positive battery cables. This will keep from doing more damage than is already done. Hope nothing more than the motor is damaged. Good luck.

Re: 2016 Club Car X2 Plus won't charge after incident
Not quite sure I would start quoting commandments but I agree David understands Club Cars way better than I do. In this situation pulling the cart that fast in Run it definitely took out some components. Motor may have survived but I would think the solenoid and controller may have bit the dust. I had a similar problem where the person did the same but not as fasted and it melted the solenoid. Changed it and he was good. In this case though I don't think you are going to get that lucky. Look at it this way, tell the wife she broke the cart so now you have to upgrade it
Let us know how that goes |

You can get upgraded parts for same or less money than OEM parts, and when you're done will have twice the speed and power it has before the incident.
Hopefully the batteries can be salvaged. Usually when they're run to completely stone dead it will damage them, and they may not come back. |
