2000 Club Car Charging Issue
The above mentioned cart isn’t running correctly. The battery light will come on for 10 seconds, go off and stays off for approximately 20 seconds. The cart stutters when I push hard on the pedal.
I’ve read and tried bypassing the OBC from the back of the receptacle to the negative pole on the #6 battery. The charger a Power Drive unit that has worked fine and still is. It will allow the charger to start, but within 10 minutes it’s off. Prior to bypassing the OBC it would do nothing. The batteries show about 9.4v each, collectively about 50.4. Since the bypass didn’t seem to solve the problem, I tried another method bypassing the OBC from the yellow wire on the solenoid to the negative, black on the controller same results except the battery light doesn’t come on at all now. I am at a loss since everything I read pointed to the OBC, so.....any ideas? |

That could be a poor connection at the receptacle, a poor connection at one of the battery cables, or the batteries are not able to hold any capacity.
Connect a Voltmeter to the pack and see what the voltage does when you try to drive. Does the voltage drop significantly when the cart is moving? Bypassing the OBC simply removes it from its ability to charge the pack. The Powerdrive charger is simply a power supply and does not contain its own On/Off controls. Did you only connect the Black wire from the charge receptacle to pack negative? What about the Grey wire? If you connected Both to pack negative and the charger now runs, it Will Not (should not) turn off on its own. Connecting only the Black wire to pack negative, the charge current control circuit of the OBC is bypassed, but the charger relay activation circuit is Not. The charger relay is activated by the OBC on the Grey wire. If only the black wire is bypassed, and the charger now runs, the OBC will not detect that the charger is working and it will turn off the charger relay after a few minutes. OBC aside, your battery pack needs to be tested under load as I mentioned above. If the voltage is dropping below 40V under load of the cart motor trying to move the cart, then one or more of the batteries is at fault. If the voltage does not drop, there is a connection issue. |

As FT4M mentioned, if you left the grey wire hoked up as normal, it could be your issue dropping out the relay.

If you have 50.4v in the pack, you should have lots of juice. Sounds like you have a battery going bad and not letting the power go through it. The only way you can find it without a discharger is to hook a volt meter to a battery and take it for a drive. Keep changing batteries until you find the one dropping way way down in voltage. I've seen them go as low as 1 to 2 volts whil the others are at 8v. Be very careful around those batteries. When one goes bad like that they can gas off badly creating a very high explosion risk.
