07 precedent ignition switch
07 precedent, 48v. wired a reliance DC converter. After finding switched 48v at the ign switch, I lost track of where the wires go on the switch. Now it runs without the switch removed. I should have taken pictures. Can anyone please tell me which/where the wires go on the ignition.
Thank you |

Re: 07 precedent ignition switch
If you are referring to the ignition switch wires it is Blue and Green (Green is the hot side). See attached.

Re: 07 precedent ignition switch
Dude, thanks for the reply and the diagram.
I was pretty sure the blue was right, it has 48v on it. Since the thing runs with no wires attached, I think I still have my work cut out for me. Can't figure that out yet. |

Re: 07 precedent ignition switch
Sergio may see this today and have an idea. I remember him one time saying that would occur if a voltage reducer was hooked to the wrong place or something like that because the current is backfeeding somewhere.

Re: 07 precedent ignition switch
On a Precedent the issue is the bucket harness negative connector in the battery area.
The negative wire that feeds the harness must be connected to the provided 12ga wire with a Yellow bullet connector. Where did You mount the reducer and what is connected to the Blue and Black wires in the battery area? |

Re: 07 precedent ignition switch
Depending on where I put the blk lead for my VOM, I get a different voltage at the switch.
I have 50v on the blue and 50v on the green. The blue wire in between the batteries is connected to a larger gauge blk wire. The red is on another red and the blk is on another blk. I assumed that one of the four batteries to be the lead one has a red wire coming off it. Not connected. The battery across from it has a blue wire coming off the pos side going to a relay looking box with a momentary button on top. |

Re: 07 precedent ignition switch
I removed all the wires to the reducer, just to start from scratch. Maybe I have the wrong lead battery. Directions say to connect the 12v wire to the lead battery. Does the negative lead go to the lead battery too?
I wonder if its too early for a beer. |

Re: 07 precedent ignition switch
The blk with the yellow connector is wired to another blk wire the same gauge

Re: 07 precedent ignition switch
You should learn a little more about your cart before connecting things or you likely cause damage to some expensive electronics.
You cannot connect the reducer to just any random battery or wire you find laying around. The main battery posts are the ones that are not connected to any other battery post, you have two of them. The "Pack Positive" battery post is the one with the cable that goes to the Solenoid. The "Pack Negative" battery post is the one with the cable that goes through the OBC (do not use this battery post). The negative wire for the reducer on a Precedent (or any other Club Car with a working OBC) needs to be connected to the 12ga black wire with a Yellow bullet connector that is available in the battery area. If You are not too sure of what you have please post some pictures that show the batteries and their connections. |

Re: 07 precedent ignition switch
Although I appreciate your reply, I followed the instructions and advice as best I could. I asked the local cart dude which battery was the lead. He told me which one, and I went from there. Yes, this is my first cart, but I am no stranger to moding cars, trucks etc. You are correct in that I don't know much about golf carts, but I am learning as best I can. I disconnected every wire on the converter, so I will start over again.
I appreciate your advice, and I will follow it accordingly. Thank you again. |
