I would try another DMV. I once bought a boat, so I went to the DMV in Suniland (South Miami). They gave me a bunch of forms to register it. It's been several years and I can't particularly remember the issues I had, but suffice to say it took no less than ten trips to the DMV and they gave me different instructions every time. I went to another DMV and they just stamped it right away.

Every DMV is different, every officer would or could read the rules wrong, I even heard of one person getting a Gas Cart street legal in Florida when the law states otherwise.
Hello Scubabud,
Can you tell me if the serial number of the original cart (pre transformation) was an important detail with DMV during the process. Problem is that my cart was rebuilt from frame up and no serial exists on the cart?

I'm in Broward County Fl.

Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks

amazon emails you a receipt showing price paid and such.
for anything ebay if used paypal to pay go to paypal transaction and print that out which shows price paid and date and such.

If you have a bill of sale for your cart showing purchase price, who you purchased it from with their Name, Address, C.S.Z., etc, along with their signature I believe that should be good enough. The DMV will be adding their own VIN once their inspection is over and approved. Why not take that Bill Of Sale down to them and ask them if they'll accept it?

Thanks. I got it from a reputable dealer in Broward so I'm hoping that will help.

Has anyone ever used a Auto Tag agency instead of the DMV? Is that possible.
Totally new to Florida and this process so I apologize if this is a stupid question.

I AM LEGAL!!! I dropped off all my paperwork last Tuesday and had a appointment for today at 1pm. I was in and out in about 15 minutes. I went to the DMV office in Margate, FL. Straight from there I went to the tag agency and had a old tag transferred to the now LSV. It seems I was all worked up for nothing (typical for me). I want to thank all of you for all the information and help.

Here is my story, with a happy ending.

First, a not-so-happy start. I went to the local DMV to register my cart and a regular car. I got the regular car done, then started on the cart. I did not know what I needed, so I gave them the bill of sale for my 09 Star Cart LSV and asked them what I needed to do. After about 30 minutes of heming and hawing, they said to go to the main DMV at the county seat, get the paperwork, make the mods needed (boiled down to a lighted license plate and a big orange reflector), get a weight ticket, get an appontment to get inspected, trailer the cart 50 miles inland, and then get the license plate. Ouch!

So, I get the forms and figure out I just lack the license plate light and the reflector. I trailer the cart down to Florida from Georgia (stopping at a few weigh stations trying to get a weight ticket and getting some really funny looks....) and get the reflector and the light plate holder installed. At this point I know I am legal and ready to go. However, I am now faced with the chore of getting an appointment, renting a trailer, hauling the cart an hour inland, and running the paperwork gauntlet - and maybe having to do it twice.....

I figure I have nothing to loose by going to the local DMV again with my official Bill Of Sale for my clearly labled LSV and just ask for a license plate. They look at the paperwork, ask if I have everything I need to be legal. I say yes. I pay my $400 bucks for the tag, and presto, 10 minutes later I am done.

By the way, having an LSV in coastal Florida does not suck. Load all of the beach paraphenalia on the cart, head to the beach, grab some lunch in town, go grocery shopping, all in the cart. I barely need a regular car.

Oh, and I also needed a windshied wiper. I want with the manual one. The exsting hole on my Star Cart was to big, so We drilled another one in the metal frame on the drivers's side.

It is not particularly useful, but it meets the letter of the law.
