Default Re: Anyone get their cart Florida Street Legal?

I was able to get around it by going to a different DMV. They accepted ebay, amazon, written statement for everything. The inspection went so smooth it scared me. I did legitimatly purchase everything and have it on the cart as required. I can't wait for this weekend to go cruisin and see my favorite officer that told me I can't take my cart to Walgreens.

thinking about getting my new cart legal...I have been reading this thread and everyone mentions you need to produce receipts for all the upgrades to make it street legal. What do I do if I bought my cart from a private seller and it already has the upgrades? Thanks

Use the paper work were you bought it. Bill of sale would include everything in the price. Here in Tn. its to show that the taxes have been paid if you fixed it up you would need to show receipts so you wouldn't pay taxes again.

So I guess each item would have to be listed on the bill of sale? Turn signals, mirrors, head lights, tail lights, horn, etc

I have a tag on my cart of the state of my permanent residence. I have a vacation place in Florida where I use my cart most of the time. I called the tax assessor's office in my respective Florida county. She told me they tag would tag my cart in Florida, but law enforcement may not recognize the fact of my having an out of state license and a Florida tagged vehicle as being lawful and may give me a ticket. She stated that their statutes and law enforcement statutes are not the same. What happens when these 1000's of out of state folks rent the LSVs at the beach? Do they get a ticket when checked? or are rentals a different situation?
I preferred to get it inspected and tagged in FL to maybe not raise as many questions as an out of state tag, but if I stand a chance of getting ticketed anyway, I will leave it as is.

Couple questions as far as FL req go

1. Do lap belts count as belts or do they have to be three point?

2. Does the cart have to be insured as well?

3. Since most roads here are 45mph. If I drive it on sidewalk along thenroad do I need street legal req?

I can answer #3, drive it on a pedestrian path, and get a ticket, no matter if its street legal or not.

1. Yes, I think lap belts are ok. The regs I looked at did not specify.

2. Yes, must be insured with liability coverage.

3. They may not be used on roads with the speed limit over 35 mph

I don't see where having a fl registered vehicle has to do with where your dl is from.
Like you said what if you rented a vehicle. Or borrowed one from a friend or relative. Or if you bought a vehicle here and left it here.

This issue is where are you a resident, your license is the most important item. Where ever your primary residence is counts, unless you have a job in Florida (permanent) in Florida then you need a Fl DL. As far as the tag you can transfer it to the location the vehicle resides in. In Fl they have a registration only tag which is for PT residents with full time vehicles,(snowbirds) Cops usually donít get that involved in this as they really are only looking for it you have a DL, Tag and you driving like a human being, I doubt you will be speeding on a cart. Make sure you stay off or are respectable on sidewalks and trails once you have a tag on the cart.
