Default New trojan charging hard

I just install a set of brand new trojan T875 in a 2012 precedent and check the volts and it was 57 before any running. We only drove it about 15 min and I put it on the charger (powerdrive 3) charger and it went all the way on the meter and about 5 hour later I check it and the meter still had about 1/4 more to go till it hit 0.

The batteries was bubbling hard and with the charger plug in I check the voltage on the batteries and it was showing 72 volts.

My question is this normal or not I don't want to mess up a new set of batteries?

Put new batteries in your meter and retest. I've noticed that weak batteries in my multimeters result erroneous readings, usually high. My sample size is small so YMMV.

Otherwise, new batteries can take a long time to charge and gassing is normal in my experience.

I've seen and indeed thought this very thing. Seems that 65 to 68 volts should be about as high a voltage you should see during a 48 volt charging process.

LOL I check it with my Fluke meter first and now I check it with a elcheepo and anther good meter and they both say about 52 to 53 volts. I guess my Fluke is fluke out. Thanks for the help.

I was just scared about the hard charging (bubbling) with the new batteries did not want to mess them up. This is the first charge I hope it don't do this on ever charge.

Thanks Three I found that and it is doing that I just thought it should have been charge by now it has been going for about 6 hours now and bubbling pretty hard. But I also read that it is pretty normal for it to do that on new batteries.

Hard bubbling is good for your batteries as it stirs up the fluid/acid within them, as long as they are not HOT to the touch while charging... Warm yes but not HOT...
