Default Charger recommendations.

06 club car precedent still with obc. Is there any advantage to buying an aftermarket charger? I have the stock big power drive charger that came with the cart I'm sure. I was looking at the Modz max 48 from golf cart king. But if I'm not getting any benefit from it then what's the point. I have no problem bypassing the OBC if needed. I guess what I'm looking for is the best charger to keep my batteries at peak performance for as long as I can.

If you want the best you want a Lester Summit II.
High frequency, high efficiency, smart charger with Bluetooth interface. You can use the Lester bluetooth app set the correct charge profile for your pack, check charge status, view charge history, and finished charge data.

It has lockout control so the cart is not driveable while the charger cord is plugged in. Can be mounted on or off-board, and has an on-board setting in the app to select for proper operation.
Available in multiple different voltages and two different output sizes. The 650w 48v version is perfect for a standard Precedent battery pack.

Lester summit II.
I had a different charger, it was a Chinese made toy compared to the Lester.

Unless your existing OBC charging system is failing or you are trying to change to an on-board setup, then no significant advantage in my opinion.

The OBC Coulomb counting method works pretty well on a Golf Cart environment, meaning a series of batteries with various undesirable loads interacting with the charging.

I seldom drive my golf cart during the week so I modified my Powerdrive to be compatible with a timer that allows me to start charging the cart at 11:00AM on Fridays so the batteries are fully charged when I get home home after work.

I plugged it in last night about 8:00. I checked on it this morning and it was still charging at 5 amps. Batteries were still 'gurgling'. And the led volts still show 53.4.
I'll check it again at noon today. I guess it's OK to let it go?
