Need for cheap speed 1998 model

I bought a 1998 Club Car about a month ago. I have gotten some help here before and the Cart is doing OK. My question is easy, what is the best way to get some speed out of the cart cheaply? The wife rides around the house and the cart is just sort of slow at maybe 10 MPH. I have read posts about a code? What is that about? Is that the cheap way to find speed? Thanks , RM

Theres no such thing as cheap speed. Sorry. The "code" is used on IQ carts. It will set you back a couple hundred bucks. You will have to take it to a dealer for reprogramming.

Thanks roady. So my cart can be reprogrammed at the dealer for 200 bucks? Then it will go how fast and what is the downside of the reprogramming if any? I can stand 200 bucks for a decent increase. Thanks, RM

No... They didn't have IQ (programable) carts in 1998!

New motor have a 95, and 97 both with strong batteries with ge high speed motor do 24-25 on gps. Plenty fast enough for around the mobile home park, going to beach or marina. 95 has a 400 amp controler has plenty of torque.

These 4 are free after that every MPH U gain will cost U $

2. Check that brakes are free and not dragging
3. Check tire inflation
4. Check All cable ends for looseness or Fraying

You could send your motor out to be rewound for more speed for a couiple of hundred bucks..... contact one of the many electric motor rebuilders..... You probably ought to have somebody check your cables and batteries first.... a fresh wound motor isn't going to work well on old or too small cables.....you could do a cable upgrade also.....

I am OK with the idea of speed and money but looking for my best options. The Batteries are about a year old Trojans and they all check good with a hydrometer and volt meter. I did not load test them but can if needed but they seem to hold up well. I have looked at the brakes and they are OK but stock drums. I am looking at tires and rims now to replace the turf tires and steel wheels. Thinking a slightly taller tire will give it a touch more top end speed but don't want to jack it up for clearance either. So is a new motor the cheapest thing to do to pick up some speed?
