If you get a new speed motor or have yours rewound for more speed (cheaper) then you will loose some torque. I caution against bigger tires and a speed motor without a controller upgrade.... Now you are talking a little $.

Rewind motor $200
Tires and wheels $500
Upgrade controller and cables $375
Plus or minus.....$1000

Just so you know in most cases increased speed = loss of torque(hill climbing)
So Im not sure where Gafney SC is (hilly or flat).
Larger tires and wheels = more speed but also loss of torque.
If you go with a re-wind tell them what you have , what you want and most of the good
ones will tell you what to expect from their motor.

Larger Cables (all major power cables) swap out generally = a little of both more torque and more speed.
Increased controller also = more torque and more speed .

Motor = $250
Cables = $150
Controller = $350-450
Then if thats not enough add 2" to tire height for anorher 1-2 MPH.

Just remember speed and torque are not always acheeved with a upgrade,
generally one or the other !

Mccoy,

Is your cart a 48v or 36v?

If 48V here are the results of my cart.

I purchased a 36V motor from http://www.***********.com/ for $30. and had them ship it to Plumquick. The 36v motor was pretty crappy, but plumquick worked it out. I had the motor reworked at plumquick for 250 with shipping

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i just installed my purple handle motor from plumquick the other day. I purchased a 36V rework

1997 club car
48V system
6" lift
22x11x10 tires
stock controller
stock solenoid
6 gauge wires for battery
Purple motor with handle 36V rework

GPS readings before purple motor 12-13mph
GPS readings with 36V motor on 48v system with the tires a little low 22-23mph
GPS readings with 36V motor on 48v system with tires fully inflated 24-25mph

Terrain on the street pretty level

The torque seems like it did not change or not that noticable. I will add a 400amp one to drive 4 people.

I plan on addiing a 400amp controller since I will be adding 2 rear seats. I am also going to add a heavy duty solenoid and 4 gauge wires all the way to the motor and inbetween batteries. hoep to get a little more juice on top.

Anybody have sugestions on what soleoid to get or where to get a good deal on some 4 gauge battery cables.

I will post results when the above has been added.

OK so let me see if I got this right. I need to buy a 36 volt motor and have it rewound for 48 volts? I can't have my 48 volt motor rewound and get more speed from it? Then I should get a special controller so I can carry 4 adults because I have a back seat already. I can go to the welding supply and get cable and terminals if I need to get bigger cables. I'll go with O or OO cables from the welding supply in fine stranded copper and we'll have no power drop. RM

you can have your 48v reworked, but the 36v will give you more speed only by about 3-4mph compared to the 48v. you dont have to get a new controller, but just decided to.

My personal openion on this is ,
to talk to the Motor rewinder and see what they say they will do and guarentee .
A lot of rewinders will send U a new rewind and charge U a core fee until they get yours back,
so U still have wheels to drive.
And some also have old 36 Volt if that is the way you want to go.
Tell them what U have , what U want and let them deside !
