2016 Precedent Charger
Hi all! I just picked up a 2016 Precedent which I assume should have the ERIC charger. However, the owner, who only had the cart for a year, said it came with a built in charger. It was wired directly to the number 1 and 6 batteries, which are original, and the AC cord is in the battery compartment.
When I got home I plugged the AC cord in and the cart began to charge as I could hear a slight hum. I pulled the motor cover off thinking I would find the ERIC charger in the motor compartment. What I did find was an old style charger(not sure of the brand, but pretty sure not CC) sitting sideways atop a 2x2 stretched across the width of the cart. I'm thinking this not a safe setup as the charger is not fastened down, even though it moves very little. It's too big to remove through the motor cover opening, so, before I go to the trouble of removing the rear seat to see what I have, I wanted to get some opinions on the setup. |

Re: 2016 Precedent Charger
Sounds like someone bypassed the obc by connecting directly to the batteries. That will work in my opinion if it is a smart charger that shuts off when the batteries are fully charged.
Other wise you would have to purchase a clubcar charger and hope the obc is good. If not you will be out that money too. You would also have to put the the battery wiring back the original configuration. Personally I wouldn't want the charger on board especially sitting on a 2 by 4. Re: 2016 Precedent Charger
The 2016 Precedent does not have an OBC so it does require a smart charger.
Post a picture or at least the make/model of that charger to make sure it is a smart charger. If it is you need to make a better support bracket or check if the cart receptacle is still wired and use it as an external charger. |

Re: 2016 Precedent Charger
Precedent Excel carts manufactured after October 2013 have the ERIC charger (no OBC).

Hit enough bumps and it could fall off and ruin your day big time. Short the motor, damage the controller, or short the charge leads to the frame and start a fire... no good outcome if it decides to walk off that plank. Find a brand and model number on it if you can. Depending how old it is, it could be a smart charger, or it could just be an old ferro-resonant brick charger with a timer board. I would hope that it's at least a type designed to turn off on it's own but considering the grand engineering that went into mounting it... who knows. Might also want to verify the serial number on the cart, and make Sure it's a 2016. Should be on the inside of the right kick panel, but if it has been damaged or removed, there is another sticker on the frame cross member under the floor. Pull up the rubber floor liner on the left side, and remove the access cover behind the pedals. Look back on the frame below where the brake cables attach and it should be there, though it can be covered in dirt. |

Re: 2016 Precedent Charger
Just to update, I got down and poked my head in there and the charger actually sits on a 2x4, not a 2x2. I will try to post a picture.
