Battery Renew tricks

I know this is probably a beaten down subject, but I would love to know some of the home formulas for renewing batteries. I saw on another conversation some one had been e-mailing a file that showed, or told the process. Thanks again, Jeff. Jeffree88@yahoo.com

Re: Battery Renew tricks

most of the battery renew tricks i have read here were all bunk..........and it seems that the few that did work was on a really short term basis and not really cost effective but that dosn,t mean there isn,t something out there somewhere that would work................................8)

Re: Battery Renew tricks

I figured most of the tricks were bogus, but for the pure chance that I can find one that works, I would be happy to get a few months out of this set of batteries. This would just buy me some time to save up for new ones, since I have been quoted between 630 to 900 for brand new ones.

I did the epsom salts treatment on a 96 48V with 4yr. old batteries. They checked higher at each charge, after third charge I was showing about 25% higher reading on hydrometer. I thought it was a worthwhile treatment. Takes a couple of hours and dirt cheap. You need a good hydrometer, squeez bulb, 1 & 1/2 gals. of distilled water, a three pound bag of Epsom salts (from Walgrens) and a 2 gal. plastic bucket. If you want the process PM me. This is the poor man's desulfication procedure. I think the snake oil on e-bay is a rip off!!.

epsom salts ARE NOT a good idea!

yes you will see a noticable diffrence in how the batteries preform

epsom does not clear the sulphation out of a battery it just makes the electrolyte MORE CONDUCTIVE

do you know of any better way than epsom salts? Like I said I would be happy with a few months of operation. Thanks for your time.

Re: Battery Renew tricks

redrider--The using of Epsom Salts was not my idea. I picked it up here in the forum. Epsom Salts is Magnesium sulfide and acts to release the sulfides from the lead plates of a battery and hold them suspended. Smarter dudes than me have posted on this process. Just run a search for Epsom Salts, read the threads and you will get the same info I did. Nothing will cure a damaged battery but the threads indicate the Salts process can have some benefit. I found the process inexpensive and beneficial for the time and effort. It appears it is cheaper than EDTA, perhaps works slower but is easy to use. I don't think there is a right or wrong issue here but the threads might temper your response. Take care.
