Why does my neg battery pack cable spark when reconnecting?
I always put the cart in tow mode, key off, FNR switch in neutral, charger unplugged, and disconnect the negative lead before I do any work on the electrical parts. The negative lead always puts out a good spark when I reconnect. Where is this coming from? Normal or not?
I have an Alltrax XCT controller. Could it be capacitors discharging? |

If you have a battery pack voltage reducer installed, they always give off a pretty good spark when reinstalling the cables. Makes me jump a little inside, every time !!!!

Use a resistor or an incandescent light bulb inline with the negative cable for a few seconds before connecting the cable directly to the battery post.
The resistance of the incandescent bulb will allow the capacitors in the voltage converter to charge at a slower current which is better for them as well. |

I don't have a voltage reducer.
If I disconnect the positive battery pack cable first, would it prevent this? |

It would not make any difference, have You thrown all your incandescent light bulbs on the trash (I saved a couple in the garage)?
All You need to do is stand the light bulb on the battery post and touch the threaded side with the cable. Wait about 5 secs and then put the cable directly on the battery post without sparks. If You still get an spark, that is not caused by capacitors charging but an actual live load. |
