How to store a electric golf cart in the winter

I have a 14 precedent with the E. R. I. C charging system and I was wandering if it would really make that much of a difference if I put it in the shed instead of the heated garage. I plan on keeping it plugged in all winter. I think the charger would kicked on as needed. I don’t know much about batteries but I do know that extreme heat is worse than extreme cold or so I was told. I don’t believe that it will get in the negative numbers to often in there. The shed is not installed. Thanks Jerry

A properly charged battery won't freeze till something like 90 below zero (f). The charger should take care of keeping them charged just fine. If it ever reaches more than 90 below I suspect you'll have bigger problems than the cart. I'm in northern Indiana, so climate should be pretty close to what you see. I keep my electric cart under a tarp - but kept charged. Never had an issue.

Ok after reading up on this i am now more confused. So storing the batteries in the cold makes them discharge slower and recharge slower but running it in below -0 temps will kill the battery twice as fast correct. So would storing it in the shed actually be better.

I believe that cold helps lead sulfate precipitate or crystallize regardless of anything else. I do however leave some batteries in vehicles in winter. Most I take inside. The ones I do leave out I make sure they keep charged. I also don't believe in leaving batteries on a charger even though it's recommended for these carts. I want nothing monitoring or messing with my batteries or doing anything when I leave a cart sit and I charge them as I see fit. The battery lifes I hear from club cars is ridiculous to me. Any time I have left a batteries on a charger they don't last very long. In my opinion they are far better off inside and disconnected.

Charge the batteries, then pull the plug on the charger and wait 30 minutes. Put the charger back on. When the charger kicks off disconnect. Pull pack negative off, pull pack positive off. Forget about it till spring.

Only thing to watch out for is topping off the batteries with water too close to winter. You don’t want any water that is not 100% mixed with the acid.

sounds good to me except you should check a couple times and maybe charge once or twice.

If you are around and power is handy hooking things back up, and charging can’t hurt. Just remember to do a total disconnect afterwards.
