Precedent top on a DS??
I got a project 1998 DS that I just picked up and will be slowly restoring to primo condition (at least I hope so). One of the simple things I know I need is a new top. Old one looks like something fell on it and is beyond hope. Struts look fine. Might have a very minor bend but should straighten out with no problem. I found a guy about an hour a way that has a DS top for $100. He also has a pile of Precedent ( I think ) tops for $25. The $75 difference is not necessarily a deal breaker but would the newer style top be nicer looking? Any advantages to trying this swap and most importantly is it possible? I suspect some support modification might be called for but I can do that within limits. Just curious on the thoughts and experience here. Joe

Re: Precedent top on a DS??
A fair bit of difference in how the DS and Precedent tops mount. Precedent even has rain "downspouts" integrated into the rear supports. Anything can be done with enough creative fabrication, but I suspect it would be A LOT of work. I don't know where you are, but most cart shops will have a pile of left over stock short tops.

Somebody in here has done this with a Precedent top and showed how he did it, but I don't remember who it was. Maybe they will chime in.

Here's the thread on it. Requires fabrication.

That's it Golfcartman. It was Swan. I need to learn to do this, the DS tops are getting scarce.

Re: Precedent top on a DS??
Here's my DS with a precedent top.
Easy to mount using a couple pieces of 1" aluminum angle for adaptors in the front strut locations and drilling new holes in the rear for the rest struts. 0630162022-1~2.jpg 0630162023a-1~2.jpg |

Re: Precedent top on a DS??
Great info and thanks for the link. From the link it sounds like newer DS roofs are much better. Mine is a 98'. I will see what year the one I found on C list is. If it is an older one I may go the switch over to a precedent roof. Doesn't look too hard to do. I like a little ingenuity challenge. We will see. Thanks guys. Joe
