battery or controller problem?
OK, I have a 2011 Club Car. SN PH1118-192602. After charging the batteries, when you take off at low speeds the cart seems to lunge/lag a little but once you get going it doesn't do it anymore until you stop, and need to take off again. Is this the batteries or perhaps the controller creating this issue? How can I determine if its the batteries or the controller or something else? I have a fluke digital meter and have tested the volts on the batteries after a charge, and they all show roughly 8 volts, and 48 volts across the pack of batteries. I also jacked up the back of the cart, and tested voltage on each battery and on the whole pack while being driven in forward and reverse and I get good voltage readings from each battery, and on the pack as well... If batteries are the culprit, I will change them out but also want to get a smart charger, so any recommendations on a charger would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: battery or controller problem?
48 volts is a DEAD pack....51 volts at least after charge...

Re: battery or controller problem?
There is no load (weight or force) on the pack when it is jacked up. Hook up your Fluke to the pack and lay it on the seat and then drive it around. You will probably be surprised how bad they are dropping off as you have no charge left in them at 48vdc.

Use insulated alligator leads for your meter and connect to the pack and to each battery individually and drive the cart while checking voltage. As mentioned above, pack voltage should be over 50V on a full charge. If only 48V those batteries are probably toast. Any battery falling below 7V under load is dead and needs to be replaced. Ideally a fully charged battery at rest will be in the 8.4 range, and will not fall below 8V when under load. |
