No, you don't have to if you install an Alltrax but most on here will agree that it would allow for more current to flow giving you an addtional boost as well. Currently I have a PQ motor without a controller upgrade or the 4 ga wires. But when I do upgrade the controller I will also upgrade the wires to maximize my results.

I have coming an Alltrax DCX400IQ will the factory solenoid be ok to handle this controller with the Plumquick motor?

Yes, it probably will be okay, but click the link below to read the pdf file from Alltrax and it gives some great information and also recommends going to a "white rogers 586" for the amperage that you are going to.
