Hydrometer nuf said
battery testing is best done with a hydrometer.

I use both a digi and an analog meter, once you use them both there are advantages to each. Every time you work on something take the time and make the jumper, probe you need and save it in a bag,box with your meters and life will be good along with a beer or two.

The stereo doesn't run through the controller so leave that out of the equation.
The batteries will continue to drain at a slow rate if you have the memory function from the head unit hooked up.
Why do you have 5 speakers, the normal combination would be 2 or 4. If you add an amp you can then drive a sub as well as higher powered speakers. What is the wattage rating of each speaker? What is the output rating of the head unit?

Look up the make and model number of your head unit (the stereo/CD player) and find out what the output is. If you can't do that, let us know hat the front of the unit says and model, like Pioneer, Realistic, Alpine etc and what else does it say on the front like model number.
