With the old ones, the charger would shut off after about 10-12 hours, but never after 5-6 hours even when those old ones were previously new ones when they were put in.

1. OK, yea I'm gonna have the charger load tested, before I do anything.
2. Gonna put new cables on as well.

I hope to get this done tomorrow, and post back...
The onboard computer is the brains for the charger. Club Car is the only maker who seperates these electronics and puts them in the cart... It sounds like you may be having an OBC issue?
By the way, we load test batteries not chargers... good luck!

I had the "cart guy" put on some new #4 cables, (as Grandma always told me bigger is better!). Plugged it back in yesterday afternoon and the charger ran for about 5 hours, but it had been just sitting for 3 days unplugged and no real use it. This morning I tested the voltages and all were 6.48 - 6.45, and pack was 38.7. I'm gonna go thru a few cycles of use, then testing before and after charging, and monitoring how long the charger stays on. So, apparently the cables were the culprit!

Q: Do I still need to get them load tested ?

I think you have solved all your problems with the new cables, good call on the upgrade to 4ga.
I don't see any reason to load test, everything looks good.
Now go out and enjoy that cart!

Congratulations on solving your problem .... Always put new cables on with new batteries !!! Now that you have a meter and new batteries. Follow a few simple suggestions from Trojan Battery Co.
1. check water level frequently fill 1/4 inch above the lead plates
2. recharge after as little as 15 minutes or as much as 90 minutes of actual peddle time
3. keep connections clean and tight
4. do not discharge the pack below 50% charge.....
5. the more you learn the longer the batteries last ..... hope this helps

Glad the problem appears to be fixed, enjoy !
I am still convinced that the charger still has a broblem with the Time_out circuit.
The problem won't appear again until you have another battery related issue

Just read the battery maint sticky...I've also used tap water when I filled other batteries previously, so I won't be doing that anymore. I'll get some distilled and only using this. I did also notice that "buzzing" sound these things make has diminished.

Q: Is there something I should do to have the charger tested, or wait a few cycles and see how things are looking then ?

No disrespect to gmorrison here but my guess is there is nothing wrong with the "timing circuit" as it really doesn't have a timer but a "voltage sensor".

From what I have read regarding your charger, the only thing that tells it when to shut off is when it reaches it's determined voltage.
As stated in the operators manual, if the charger runs for more than 18 hours the charger is malfunctioning. It doesn't say it turns off after 18 hours if the batteries are not charged.

Your "malfunction" could be from variety of reasons like low voltage input, bad batteries, bad voltage sensing circuit or even bad cables. You seem to have cured the problem with the cable change and should have no more problems.

If you have any concerns or would like to confirm any info, call Lester, they are more than willing to help diagnose any issues or concerns you have.

No disrespect taken ,
go back to page 2 of this thread .
Part way down is the PDF from Lesters web page for this charger.
On page 5 item #4 Read ,
I'm not making this stuff up just reporting what Lester states as fact.

As far as having the Charger tested , I would say no.
the Voltage sensor circuit is working (just not the timer circuit).

I agree with what Lester says and what you have pointed out. I've written service and installation manuals and you always have to consider that not everyone is as skilled at spotting issues and you need to include all scenarios and also include the obligatory "call factory" or "call service rep". This message is generally included in all manuals, I'm sure from a legal standpoint, it keeps companies from becoming lawsuit targets.

I think the reasoning behind this statement is to prevent you from doing damage to batteries, charger or even cause a fire or explosion because there was something wrong with the battery's wiring, electrolyte level or bad cell.

Manual timers are probably available but there is blank out plate there so I guess 1 could be added. I have a 42v Lestronic ll and have the same blank out plate on mine.
