Hey scubabud, no, I havent tested the leads yet, but I also just need help on removing the dash, how do you do it without much trouble? I will likely just find the wires behind the dash, then cut the hole out for the new meter, then hook the wires up and put the dash back. If you dont mind, could you give me detailed steps on what I should do, just basic stuff, I do not plan on getting a voltmeter yet, as the cart was all stock until I just got it, nothing has been modified with the cabling or the batteries or anything. Thx alot man for all of your help on making this go smoothly. Tomorrow I will be installing the ball cleaner, I've finally figured out the instructions on how to do it.

You WILL NEED a handheld voltmeter, preferably from Harbor Frieght for under $5 before you get inside that dash. It's the only way to make sure you have the right wires!

Ok, so I will get a voltmeter, I have a store called stines nearby that sells voltmeters and such tools. However, I have absolutely no idea what to do when I get the voltmeter. How do you remove the dash by the way? I see no clip to unclip it, so im guessing I will have to pry it off with a knife. Of course when I install the meter, our friend will be over, and he will know what to do. I'll make sure to tell him not to take the cables from the low battery meter. Thx alot for any help, if you guys have pictures on how to remove the dash, that would be useful, or any other pictures that deal with the wiring. Thx alot again, -David

Actually, again guys, I have found some good info in the wiring diagram that came with the horizontal meter. It has two red wires going in, and 1 black wire. I just read that you have to connect so so wire to so so on the battery, and that you connect red and black wires back to the gauge. My questions is, how in the world can you have two red wires? I bought the horizontal meter from everythingcarts.com btw, one of the sponsors here, great seller. Thank you guys again, esp. scubabud.

Rendog,

In today’s world with the internet anyone can find out just about anything like... how to use a multi-meter, correct term for what I was calling a voltmeter.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...meter&aq=f&oq=

To get you going I did a quick search and came up with tons of links. Above is a video on one... I didn't watch it completely but I'm sure it can help you understand it's use. I did start it and one thing they mentioned was that a multi-meter is like the Swiss army knife for electronics. What does scare me is that you said you could change a light switch so hopefully you understand the difference between a HOT lead and a Ground lead. Red for HOT and Black for ground are the colors of a multi-meters test leads. Once you get one it should all come together. All you will be using is the DC voltmeter and Ohm meter portion for the most part. Learn those two things first! As far as the dash removal I cannot help you there since I don't have your cart model. Others that have your cart could help you in that area. Why not start another thread asking for that specific task.

Thx scubabud, I've seen your precedent, it looks very nice. Unfortunately its completely different from the Ds iq, I prefer the Ds iq any day over just a stock CC precedent, nothing except its agility stands out to me lol. I will be working on getting someone to help me get the dash off though I guess, thx alot for all of the help though, and yea, I know about red being the hot and the black is ALWAYS the grounding cable. Hope to talk to ya on here later, -David

On my older DS there are 2 screws, one on each side of the dash panel. Remove those and then you have to bend and twist the plastic dash out from the steering column. Best to remove main negative battery cable before hand as the key cylinder terminals are exposed and you may gound them out mistakenly...so be safe and disconnect the battery to be sure.

The screws are around on the sides of the dash panel, sometimes hidden under a plastic cap.

I just looked at a couple of the left over DS IQ's at Ft. Wilderness and the dash still has those same two screws at the top, just covered with plastic caps.

Rendog92,

Glad to hear that you are taking on the task of fixing that DS IQ. The electrical system is pretty much the same as the Precedent as well as the rear end, brakes, motor, etc. The stock front end of a Precedent did have some problems but after putting on a lift kit that is a moot point. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion on taste, color, and mechanical fitness. Hey, some people are still using Windows98 too! I personally like both but decided to go with the future, not the past. Good luck with your build

Yep, there are two caps blocking the screws on each side of the dash. It should be easy to take off come this weekend. Oh yea, we are probably buying some batteries, as the 05s really really are getting bad. There are no trojan dealers within 150 miles of us, so we are likely getting the US battery 8 volts from Sams club, they are supposedly not made by Energizer, but by US battery. It should last at least 2 years, maybe even 3 if taken care of.
