J-bolt under floor on drivers side. Two 5/16" jam nuts...

Never seen any sticking out the back... Not saying there aren't any, I just haven't seen any... The j-bolt is the easiest to access. He didn't say if he had no pedal, or if he has pedal but no stopping power...

The DS always had the little square adjustment bolt sticking out of the top of the bqacking plate 1/2 turn is a big preload adjustment ... Clockwise for tighter shoes... And then they have self adjusters inside. Just pump the peddle... Best idea of any of the big 3

WHOA..Those self adjusters only keep it in the ballpark....if you have the drums off, the "PROPER" way to adjust the brakes is by the star wheel adjusting screw between the two brake shoes. The adjusting screw by the J nut is to take up the slack in the cables which stretch over time.. You can do it that... way but the correct way is to take the drums off, adjust the brake adjusting screw between the shoes until you can hear the shoes rub lightly on the drums as you spin them by hand.
then if the pedal is still low, take up the cable slack at the adjusting nut on the J hook which is located under the cart close to the pedal.

Nuthin' stickin' out the back of an '01 'cept the lever. '99 is the same. Are you lookin' at an old one??? I've always used the j-bolt unless the pedal was up and it wouldn't stop. Then I remove the drums and manually adjust them. Learn me somethin' scotty...

I don't know what year they did away with the exposed adjustment
Nivel indicates a change in backing plates for '95
