smoke in my battery area
Hey there!
two weeks ago I wrote abut smelling and noticing bubbling in my battery area. But I thought it was because of too much amps from my stereo.Thats was fixed. Now I rode it today and started to smell plastic burning?I checked all my readings and all was good.Charging my batts now ,but wondering why it would smell like plastic was burning? Thanks BGW! Re: smoke in my battery area
That was a good one ox!!
Hey rasta, Didn't you say that your batteries are 4+ years old and are bulging on the sides? I have a 36V with 5 year old batteries that are bulged and keep putting liquid on the top (even if its not charging). From everything I have read it is just the age of the batteries and they are getting to an age that they need to be replaced. last week I pulled all my bat's, cleaned everything up, sprayed everything down with anti-corrosion and reinstalled. I've actually noticed a smell that is kind of like plastic burning but clean (if that makes any sense) Not a strong smell but there. I'm sure it the bat's. My wires are all good and not hot after I run, but I know that I'm going to need bat's. For now though the bat's are taking a charge and running a pretty impressive amount for their age, so I will keep using them until they die or I decide its time to retire them. |

Re: smoke in my battery area
Like the old saying .....'where there is smoke, there's fire' Probabvly a bad or worn connection at the F&R? that is common.

Re: smoke in my battery area
Check the F&R.... Give it wiggle to check for arcing. Give an inspection if the contacts for signs of burning..... lastly check temps of wires and cables by hand....Now careful doing this that you don't get burnt....You have a real problem with this cart from the history posted here so far..... I wouldn't drive or charge much until someone can find it......there is a v. gd. mobile cart tech in your neighborhood A call to him might save some $ in the long run.
Good luck |
