using 4-12's instead of 6-8's

just purchased a 99 club car carryall, in pieces it has 4 optima (gell cell) 12v marine deep cycle batteries, that appear to be almost new, will these give me reasonable service? I'll probably put 1-2 miles a day on cart using it around farm, will the weight difference between 4-12's and 6-8's be an advantage? COLLOSSE

Nope......short run times....and if your lucky, a year of service.....sell 'em to your fishing buddies, and get the right cells...

if your only gonna use it 1 or 2 miles daily you,ll get by as far as ride time but they won,t last as near as proper cart batteries will........................

For that kind of run time you'll be fine. Run them til they're done and then get regular 12v lead acid GC batteries for it (Trojan T-1275). Should be less money than T-875's but also less run time.

don't get the t-1275s get the 8v batts... 6 8vs are usually cheaper than 4 12v 1275s anyways..

1st choice – keep the batteries you have if they are working for your needs until time to replace them. No unneeded expense for now!
2nd choice-go with 6- 8 volt Trojans if you have the room for them.
3rd choice-go with 4 12 volt Trojans if you don’t have the room for the 8’s.

If they are new then give them a test as to how far you can go with a full charge using a GPS for miles driven or use some sort of measurement of the area that you are familiar with. If they do the job and since you already have them just keep them until they’re not handling a proper charge anymore. Then if you want go the 6-8 volt route if you have the room. If not then go the 4-12 volt route.

I have been reading about the use of 12 Volt deep cycle batteries vs 8 volt GC batteries for a couple of weeks now, and nobody ever gives what I would consider statistical information about the use of deep cycles in a cart. I would like to see some statistical evidence instead of preference information. Sometimes I wonder if all the people that answer questions about the use of deep cycle vs GC batteries work for Trojan.

Go to your choice of 12v deepcycle and read the specs on it. Not that I have but I would bet there is nothing on them recomending for GC usage. If they worked for GC's then that manufacturer would be pushing the battery for that usage.
Then go to Trojan or some other GC battery and compare the amp ratings.

As for a little common sense I havn't seen a marine deepcycle close to the physical size of a GC battery.

thanks for all the advice guys I learnrd a lot, the 6-8volt seems to be the winner, club car sent these out with the carryall2 and I;m sure they'ed
done reasearch too. as for the 4 marine deep cycle Blue tops that came with the cart, I know a lot of fishermen that need trolling motor batteries or RV'ers that need backup batteries for their RV's
I've got another question!!! I have no charger, and I've read about on=board chargers, and that they eliminate the need for the OBC (on board computer)I;m liking that idea cause the simpler the better in re-wiring the carryall, I don't have any diagrams to go by, can you guys help with that?? the clubcar is a 1999 carryall 2, all help will be appreciated, thanks again for the battery Info collosse
