1990 Club Car 36Volt
I have a 1990 Club Car 36V that I purchased from a friend and the batteries seem fine and last several hours when riding on the flat surfaces but they do not go up hill very fast. When I charge the batteries the charger only runs for about 2 hours and cuts off. I think the batteries are about 5 years old.
This is my first cart and need help. Any ideas to what this could be, or if the charger is bad? How long does a battery charger run when charger the batteries? |

Re: 1990 Club Car 36Volt
here is where you start...first off remember those cars were not very fast to begin with but....
to check your batteries, first step is charge them with your charger until it shuts off, wait about 1/2 hour for voltages to stabilize then check the voltage of each battery individually(no need to disconnect cables), write them down, and then compare them to the 6V column in the chart which is in the attatched link. Post your findings and more answers will surely follow http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-readings.html ^^^click here^^^ |

How do you check the battery readings? Im guessing you would use an ohm meter?

voltmeter, test voltage, than load test batteries than check cells with a hydrometer..................make sure your cables are good and all batteries terminals are clean and tight.......this is all important as mentioned top speed on flatland is 10 to 12 mph and slower up inclines but you should get 7 to 8 mph..............................................8 )

Re: 1990 Club Car 36Volt
I checked the batteries and have a reading of 6.1 volts in every battery. Does this mean the batteries are partially charging or are they getting old? I ran the charger until it cut off in about 1 hour. I have new cables ordered hoping this will help as the cables look worn.

Re: 1990 Club Car 36Volt
I'm getting between 6.10 - 6.14 in the batteries. When you say thats a problem what type of a problem are you referring to?
