Default Battery breakin or break in procedure procedures

I purposely started and titled this thread for a reason. I was reading some older posts where questions arose about proper breakin, and responses were to do a search for info. Well I did a search myself and had trouble finding the info so I thought I would do a quick thread titled appropriately.
I was all over Trojans website, and there is no info on breakin procedures. They do say that it takes 50-100 charge cycles to reach full battery potential. They also say at one point to not run below 80% for best longevity--yeah like thats possible.
So could those in the know post their procedures for properly breaking in a new set of Golf Cart batteries--I think this will help myself and many in the future who do searches.

I don't remember the source... maybe some one will? I was told to fully charge after installation and BEFORE driving the cart... Then do not take the pack down below 80% for the first 5 cycles and 60% the next 5 .....then never below 50% for the life of the pack or 2000 cycles whichever comes last

this is how i exp;laine it to customers and it has never failed me........brand new batteries are approx70 to 75% so once they are installed ( correctly ) the 1st 10 to 12 complete charge/discharge cycles are as follows plug charger in and leave it alone until charger shuts off by itself than drive cart to about 50% battery life and plug back in and repeat charge cycle.......very important you leave it charge until its completly done and this is what you want to do 10 to 12 times ......by the 12th time you,ll notice a differtence in powr/speed and runtime.........i have never had a customer say they havn,t........ther most common comment i get is wow its like a different cart..........thats the break inperiod pretty simple wouldn,t you say..........while doing this keep an eye on water level as i have sen it take 16 hours or better the 1st few times as they break in you,ll notice charge time gets less also........................after that the 2nd most important thig is maintaining the batteries........very critical you get into a ruintine of spending a whole 20 minutes a few times a month to keep things in good/clean and tight condition to get a lot more time out of your batteries......................................... ..............

Thats the info I think will help everyone. I can attest to the batteries getting stronger each time you recharge in the beginning. I did new batteries and a PQ motor at the same time, and with each battery charge cycle, the cart got quicker and quicker..noticeably.
Thanks for the postings

Noticing the same thing on my '02 DS with brand new T105s. Had just actually checked this morning after 11 hours, and could hear the batteries 'bubbling'. Was concerned and had pulled the charger to research (thank god for EVDO at the trailer).

I've had about 4 charge cycles now, but honestly hadn't realized it was taking this long during the night to charge.

So is the bubbling and all okay, given the charger seems to sit at around (2) amps for quite some time. PowerWiseII 36V charger btw.

Thanks,
Rhino.

Batterys bubbling is NORMAL when charging for ( NEW OR OLD BATTERYS ) Thats why in the old days 1934-1960 that chargers worked at a much smaller amp rate. Since the advent of alternators on autos its acceptable to have a higher rate of charge along with more bubbling during charge cycle.
If charging is causing batterys to require distilled water all the time then there is some reason to check out battery and charging systems. I have 5 year old batterys in my Club Car and I have only added water ( TWICE IN A YEAR ) to maintain proper levels. Im a cheap distilled water purchaser? My charger is a higher amp rated charger than most because it will start at 20-25 amps and then tapper off to shut off point. Im seeing chargers for Club Car with only 15-20 amp rates, might be because of 12 volt batterys?

How long should the charger hover around the 1-5 amp range during the battery break-in period ?

Also - I'm wondering if my meter is calibrated properly, given that at the 1.5 hour mark, the readings were higher than what I've read on the state of charge sticky. Here's my readings (from first negative battery onward):

1: 6.59
2: 6.57
3: 6.62
4: 6.62
5: 6.62
6: 6.62

New T-105s this year with probably 4 charges on them so far.

Should I be concerned, and what action should be taken if any ?

Rhinoman-- The charger will hold at a low amp reading for long periods is normal. I have seen them last overnight at about that rate on new batterys.
Rhinoman were these readings taken while charging or ( after waiting at least one hour unhooked from charger )?
NUMBERS 1-2 are low yet, could these have been hooked up to cart accessories that have been used? Are the date codes on all batterys the same or could it be that the low two batterys are an older date with more shelf life?
Also did you use new batterys before charging for the first time? I know its hard not to take it out after installing batterys and see how much better it runs?? But its really a NO NO?

OLD MEC: New batteries were acquired at the same time, and charged before first use. Since installation 4 weeks ago, no accessories have been installed across (2) batteries, but a voltage reducer is in place pulling across the full back.

Whether it's related or not, the lower batteries are closest to the negative side. Would this be related to wiring, getting less voltage during a charge, etc ? New 4GA 404 strand welding cable was used for all connections (all except v-glide of course) before first charge.

I'll check the date codes on them when I'm up Friday.

Is your voltage reducer hard wired to battery pack ( no switch to turn it off )? If so I would recommend that you place some kind of switch to turn off battery power to reducer when not in use. I had a neighbor loose his cart to a fire from a shorted out reducer that was hooked up all the time.
It could be that because the lower batterys are nearest the negative end of pack it could make a small difference BUT? Through the years I have never noticed any difference from one end of pack to other? I dont feel at this time that you have any problems, BUT MURPHYS LAW could kick in, lets hope not.
Will see if lower batterys have older date code.
