Battery question...

I need to pick you guys brains for a minute here. I recently purchased a 2003 CC IQ 48V at a steal of a price. Things seems to run really well. Put the charger on the batts for the first time and it didnt seem to want to take a charge very well. Checked the water level in the batteries and all 6 of them were bone dry. These batteries are the original ones that came in the cart and they are stamped 03. They are trojan 875's I think. Once I refilled them with water they took charge like they should. Seems to have decent power but when I hit a hill it wants to slow down on me a bit. Do you guys think that I need a new set of batteries? I was told that they are 4 year batteries and this is 6 years on them PLUS they were dry. If so do you think that I can expect a power increase from changing them? I checked the voltage with the charger on and it read 54.? volts so I know that it is charging. Any input would be appreciated. Once the new batts are in, would it be worth the money for a different controller even with the stock motor? I would like as much torque as possible because I am going to use this cart for towing a 3200lb race car. Thanks in advance guys.

I would be very wary of 6 year old batteries that were dry and were evn attampted to be charged while dry. You can spend time trying to get them back but they will never get to the full voltage potential of new batteries. If towing a race car, you will want all the voltage you can get.
Also being so old, you WILL have problems ain the near future, and these will always happen at the most inopportune times. So I would think to just replace the batteries now and be done with them for several years.

I'm with Oxfordlawn....New Batts and be done with it....especially if you got the cart cheap....

If the cart has original 6 gauge cables on it, I would really think about changing them out also, since you are going to be working the cart the way you are.
Change all, or as many as you can to 4 gauge, and you will be better off.

buy new batteries if you can afford it get the best or a least close to it..............if your gonna upgrade cables ( not a bad idea ) you have to do them all.......every 6 gage has to be a 4 gage or don,t waste the money or time, now the really important part...............its very critical that you break the new batteries in right or again a waste of money and after they are broke in its very important that you maintain them on a monthly basis if you can do maintence twice a month....only takes 20 minutes and will save you in the long run.............................and beings your gonna pull a car behind it i would upgrade the controller.......you don,t have to go all out but i would dump the one thats in there for a 400 amp at least.........not as critical but you might want to go with a HD solenoid and HD F&R switch...........good luck be safe..........................................

What is the process of breaking them in correctly? Also do you have an exact controller in mind that would work well with the existing stock motor? Yes we are replacing all the wires with 4 guage too.

Start 1 step at a time.
Batteries = BIG improvement !
#4 Gage cables (all #6 gage replaced) = Nice more power to the motor.

After these see what you think, then if not enough power go for the Controller snd Solinoid.

What solenoid are you talking about? I am excited about this cart and the hope of adding some good torque for a reasonable(low) amount of money. Not looking to break land speed records, just want plenty of power to pull the racecar....who knows maybe even the racecar trailer too!

Pulling a heavy weight low speed or continuous up hill climbs will burn up a speed cart.
So torque is what U want.
Either way you will need Batteries and Cable upgrade, then go from there.
