1995 Club car electrical help

Just bought home a 95 club car electric 48v. Has a charging problem that I was aware of but I got it at a good price. The powerdrive charger is drawing 18 amps when plugged into cart and trips the 15amp braker after about a minute. Batteries are showing 48volts on meter before I took it for a couple of drives. After about 10 minutes of driving cart died. Where should I start looking???? I am going to unhook the batteries and test voltage on each one of them to see if I have a bad battery. thanks

I went out and checked each battery individually. Readings were 7.6 to 7.8. From what I have gathered reading posts is that batteries are drained. Does this sound like a problem with charger just being bad or a short somewhere causing breaker to trip. THe charger is a power drive charger with the 15 amp trip on front of box. thanks

First Of ALL give us the serial number from under passengers dash side of cart. This will help in finding out which cart you have? In 1995 and 1996 there was several different styles of wiring.
At 7.6 and 7.8 your batterys are only about 10% charged. I dont understand your charger with a 15 amp trip? My 1996 charger has a 25 amp breaker and NORMALLY charges 15-20 amps for several hours before dropping back to 15 amps. Do you have some one near you that you could try there charger on your cart?
Have you tried doing a hydrometer check ( with a temperature correction on side unit ) try each cell and post readings as I think you may have a major battery problem?

I have read that the power drive charger with 15 amp breaker is the weakest one made. I went out tonite and disconnected each battery and hooked up 12v charger at 2 amps. Charged 1 battery for about 1hr and it read 8.1v and another battery for about 45 min but charger got hot so I quit. THat battery read 8v. Does anyone have any ideas short of taking to a cart shop which I plan to do next week if I can figure it out. thanks

The serial number on cart is A9548476344.

I would continue to charge your pack with a 12 volt charger one at a time and try and get the batterys ALL above 8 volts and see if charger will carry on from there? Dont just leave the charger running without it being watched as it will overheat as you saw.
Have you done a check with a hydrometer yet, as I think you may have one or more bad batterys and Post your readings.
Question-- what speed control do you have, V glide ( pie shaped unit ) between the drivers side batterys with resistors, V drive with Solid state control, MCOR mounted under passenger seat floor with solid state control? Also where is your F&R switch located and what is it, a handle mounted beside your legs or a switch?

SORRY ABOUT THE STOPPING BUT HAD A STORM TAKE OUT MY POWER?? To continue it really sounds like you may have a very MODIFID cart that could have been changed over into almost anything as far as parts are conserned. Can you see the model and part number off the OBC ( Unit that battery pack GROUND WIRE PASSES THROUGH ) this might be of some help.
Im sorry but from serial numbers the cart doesnt seem to match what you have NOW? I could be wrong but lets find out what you have and then go from there.
Could this have been one of the flood damaged carts that are around the TEXAS area that are being sold dirt cheap because of salt water damage? I see by your post that you are a native TEXAN so did you get this cart from along the coastal areas?
Some had salt water flooded into many parts and lots of them have been repaired with left over parts from many sourses, including the chargers? Was this cart bought from a dealer or individual and does it carry any warentee?

I live in pa now and that is were I bought cart from. The F/R is a is a switch next to leg. I am going to buy a digital voltage meter today and will post exact readings tonite. I will check on obc and speed control also. I bought cart from individual. thanks
