Wires touched on F/R switch....now no go!
Hello, cart is an 82 CC #A8211. It belongs to my neighbor. Last fall he complained that the seat was getting hot. He pushed it outside in case of fire. After it cooled it has not run since. It was pushed into my pole building until last week. I pulled all batteries out, washed them and found 3 cracked, 2 good that were replaced last year and 1 older one still in tact. I also found that the 2 wires on the rotating part of the F/R switch were touching each other and had been for a while as they were burnt badly. I replaced those wires and I had him buy 3 new batteries. When I put them back in I get the reverse buzzer, solenoids clicking but no wheel rotation either direction. (Rear wheels are off the ground)
Here are the vitals: pack voltage is 31V. The 3 new batts show 5V. The remaining 3 show 5, 4 and 1. I am trying to find a 6v charger to charge that last battery to see if it is any good. My thinking is the motor is toast? How can I check to see if the motor is getting what it needs to run though? I appologise for the long post but I wanted to get all that facts out. Any help is greatly appreciated! |

Re: Wires touched on F/R switch....now no go!
Here is an update on my cart: I was able to find a procedure for testing the motor (thank you Roady89). The motor is fine as far as I can tell. I was able to get it to spin the wheels with a 12v charger. So, where do I go from here???
Thanks, Bob |

ALL of your batteries should show above 6 Volts each (not 5 4 & 1!)
Get them each up to a 6v charge... THEN... see if it'll run for you! |

what Lockman said
( 5 + 5 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 1 = 23 Volts not 31 ???) You can charge them 2 at a time with 12 Volt charger |

...and just to throw this out there, just because a solenoid is clicking doesnt mean its working. If you still have nothing after geting all the batteries up to voltage, jump across the solenoid and see if that gets the wheels to spin. As we have all read in previous posts--dont spin that motor up too fast on jack stands, or else...KABLOOEY

Thanks for all the help! I currently have a charger and am getting all the batteries up to charge. Should be done tonight or tomorrow. I will post results. Maybe I could use a math lesson as well??

Re: Wires touched on F/R switch....now no go!
Well, that did the trick. The batteries just needed charged. It kind of feels like I took my car to the shop just for them to tell me that I was out of gas! I was able to drive the cart last night. It did not last long as the one older weak battery needs replaced. It will have a fresh pack of batteries then. I also noticed that some of the jumper wires between the batteries are not too good. So I will make up new ones.
Thanks again for all of the help!! Bob |
