Default 88 Elec. CC Motor Upgrade?

Hello Everyone!

I have a 1988 Electric Club Car (w/ out V-Glide) and interested in upgrading the motor for some more speed/power. What motors are there that would work? Or even better, can someone translate the technical jargon that describes these motors? Or can I get work done to the solenoids or coils to increase the speed? If I do replace the motor, do I need to replace anything else...solenoids, coils, etc.?

I'm looking to go between 20-25 mph on flat terrain. The cart is not lifted, but probably will eventually get a 4" or 6" lift. I believe it's a 36 volt system.

Thanks for the help everyone !!!

Welcome Stacey, You have a 5 solenoid speed control system .... There are no safe speed upgrades for your cart short of replacing the 5 solenoid system with a solid state speed control system..... This can be done for about $1500 including new 48v battery pack. The old motor will give you about 18-20 miles an hour on 48v.... Again there really is no safe way to speed up this cart without a speed control makeover

Good question. I have not heard of a kit but the components are easily gotten. I bet if you called any one of our Sponsors and asked them for all the components needed to do the conversion they would be able to put it together for you. The only part which is not a bolt on piece is the PB-6 (potentiometer) it requires a homemade mount.... there are several variations on the site of how it has been done...Here is a list of what all you would need.
48v worth of GC batteries ( six 8v or eight 6v)
1 48v battery charger (not a CC Powerdrive)
1 48v 400amp solid state speed controller (0-5k)
1 PB-6 matched to the controller (0-5K)
1 HD 48v solenoid
1 HD 48v F&R Switch
1 six pack of beer

Thanks for the info. I would throw in a 2 six packs if somebody would help me install it all & get it working.

Allright, since I just did this, and it's fresh in my memory (not enough beer during the conversion to kill the brain cells), fly me down to TX and I can do it for you

Seriously, if I can do it, then so can you. There's lots of help here on the forum. And yes, the hardest part is to fabricate the PB-6 linkage.

I am in the process of doing the same thing, so if you have any questions i would glad to offer any input, but i am by no means as much of an expert as many on this site. Just recieved the controller last night and fabed up my PB-6 linkage last night, so the next step is to mount the controller and start wiring.
