Help with Precedent Motor install

Guys, I just purchased 2004 club car Precedent with 2008 Trojan batteries. The cart is running speed code 3, and runs around 14mph. I just ordered a Plumb quick motor to install to get some additional top end speed. I have heard that you are supposed to unhook the batteries and soilinoid, etc in a specif order so to not cause an arc and fry the IQ controller. Can anyone tell me what this order is? I also searched for motor removal instructions but could not find any that were clear enough for me to do it with my limited skills. Do you jack up the cart and remove the motor from below, or remove batteries and do it through the chassis?

1. run tow switch to tow.
2. remove pack negative battery cable, this is the one on passenger/forward battery position
3. remove the positive cable, this is the drivers side forward battery
4. remove motor thru access panel in the bagwell area, careful that thing is VERY heavy

note, use 2 wrenches to take the cables off motor, one to stabilize the stud, and the other to remove the cable hold down nut. You dont want those studs to turn at all.

reverse the above procedure exactly when motor is in. It will take a couple of pushes on the gas pedal to get things to wake up, dont panic when it doesn't move the first time of pedal push.

Hey thanks so much for the super fast response! I do not need to remove any cable from the solenoid or is this where the positive cable goes? This is very helpfull, I will let you know once I get my results next week.

The positive cable in essence goes to the solenoid. By removing the negative and positive cables, you are removing all current. I have installed a few of the PLUMQUICK motors and have not had a problem doing it in this manner. You should see speeds in the 21 to 22 MPH range on flats and a little higher with even the slightest of downhill slope.

My cart slows down to like 12ish on upslopes, will this increase the uphill speed at all?

Pulling the motor up through the access panel can be a real test of strength and self control, also lining up the spline for re-install can ruin your whole day. You may want to Jack up the cart. Pull the right rear wheel and drop the rear spring shakle. This should take about 15/20 minutes and that motor will slide right out in your lap (if not frozen to the spline!!). Also the re-install is easy as you can tell when the motor is level to push it on the spline. Don't forget a new spline bumper also.

I just removed the batteries and laid the cart over on its side which reveals the whole undercarriage. Do it to the direction where the motor is on top of its differential mount. rgds/pjs

A DS and a Precedent are 2 different animals and the motor comes right out thru the access panel in the back of the cart on a Precedent, believe me. The motor is right there and its not hard to get the new PQ motor lined up as it will have a handle on top which makes this install super easy. Dont take the batteries out and turn on its side, a DS I can understand but not a Precedent.

Just going to add a bit more detail on the install:
Put Tow/Run switch in Tow position.
Locate and remove main negative lead from battery pack.
Locate and remove main positive lead from battery pack.
Make sure you write down where the 4 wires go that are currently on your motor, (could take picture to be sure.)
Remove 4 wires on your current motor using 2 wrenches to make sure you don't spin contact terminals
Remove 3 bolts going from your motor to your case
Remove 1 bolt from motor hold down bracket, (larger bolt then the other three from case.)
Pull out old motor, being careful of its weight when it will drop, around 50 pounds.
(If old motor is stuck use rubber mallet on end of motor case and hit back of motor TOWARDS axle case to help loosen.)
Clean up inside of axle case and lightly lube shaft.
Put new motor on shaft and slide to case.
Replace all bolts, do not over torque them. (MAKE SURE motor is flush with case before bolting to case!)
Replace all wires back to original position using 2 wrenches to make sure you don't spin contact terminals.
Replace positive lead back to battery pack.
Replace negative lead back to battery pack.
Put Tow/Run switch back to run.
Get in your cart, hit the pedal a couple of times testing drive and reverse and your done.

You've got an access panel as well as the ability to just jack it up and pull the motor out. I have a rear seat and charger as well as cord reel in the bagwell so I pulled mine from underneath. Plus mine has a 6" lift which helps as well.
