Motor stuck on splines

I have just received a D & D motor and am attempting to install it, however the old motor will not come loose from the splined shaft. I pried the motor up until something came loose, but it appears the motor shaft just pulled out of its bearing. I hope I have not ruined my stock motor. I can see the shaft now and have tried a pry bar.

Any idea on unfreezing the old motor? Should try heating the splined femail with a torch?

Some use a torch, it works too. Don't pull the housing any further than you already have. Either the bearing has came out of its pocket or the shaft came out of the bearing....either way, don't pull it any further. You could break the brush holder. You can also spray it down real good with WD-40 or the like. Lety it soak a few days. Try and get a prybar behind the motor output shaft in between that and the housing....don't pry to hard, you don't wanna bust anything.


If the shaft came out of the bearing it should be fine, you may have to disassemble it to get it back together. If the bearing came out....it could catch the brushes and break something.

OK, I got it. Thanks for good advice.

Between alternating shots of WD-40 and heating the female spline with a torch and the use of a bigger crowbar, it came loose.

The bearing did pull loose from the motor's rear and the bearing retaining ring will have to be replaced, but the brushes and armature look good.

Anyone who wants this motor as is can have it for the cost of shipping from South Carolina 29909. It was working fine before I dismounted it.

The splines of the new motor will be getting a liberal dose of axle grease before being mounted.

BTW: Removing batteries and tipping the cart over on it's side worked very well.

dont give your motor away too fast..you'd be surprised at how much that armature is worth...list it on craigslist or e-bay---you might be pleasantly surprised.

If you haven't put that new motor on the spline yet I suggest a couple of things. 1. Be a little skimpy with the grease on the spline, it just takes enough to put a light film, too much and it will throw around when it warms up.. 2. If the new motor didn't come with a new spline bumper pick up a new one for a couple of bucks at the CC dealer, don't use the old one as they wear with age and you get a nice loud "clicking sound that drives you up the wall.. Check previous threads for installation.

Do to good advise above, I've change my mind about giving the old motor away. I apologize to folks who have contacted me.

Instead, when my current project is finished, I'll clean the old motor up and fix the bearing support ring and offer it on eBay.
