I have a 1996 CC ds 48v, i have been trying to figure out what the best motor for this thing would be. I would be replacing the controller as well and the motor will tell me which one i should get....so i gotta start with the motor. this cart wont be used offroad, just on flats. I am wanting speed..the most i can get but i dont want a cart that takes forever to get going. all of the wiring would be atleast 4 gauge as well...give some ideas of some combos and what the combos can do

i talked to PQ and EMP today, the most i got out of them was like 23mph...i know this thing is capable of more

At least a 500 amp AXE controller and a D&D motor. Call D&D and see what combos they have to offer. No one can tell you an exact speed because there are too many variables.

If you get a high speed motor you can try to compensate for lack of low end torque with a high(er) amp controller. Same thing with low ratio gearing, use a higher amp controller. Everything has to work together to compliment each other.

ok ill try d&d, ya ive thought about the higher amp controller to make up for the loss of torque but i just have to find a motor that would pull all of the amps. PQ said they offer a package that would get my cart around 30mph for $1600. if im going to spend that then ill just spend the extra cash and get the AC conversion....or is that not worth it?

Put a high speed 36v motor in it and you should get easily 28mph out of it. Larger tires will probably get you to 30+mph.

wait a couple days and I'll tell you what my setup does once I get the 6:1 gears installed.. . see sig below. I'm real curious what the torque will be... if I can only get those darn gears separated I'll be racing up and down the streets (new thread coming)

One thing to consider when you get near or above 30mph is stopping. I'll be putting in front disc brakes as soon as AllSports gets them designed (should be soon I was told)

yes ive realized the stopping situation haha but i can cope with that. and as far as a highspeed motor, what motor would get me around high 20s with 48v and stock gears? and how much torque would it have with like a 600amp controller?

As for the original question...Sounds like my dilemma I had a while ago. I wanted the best of both worlds- high speed and good torque. I believe others have used the Badboy motor (D385 I think) to get 28mph or so but you lose the torque to get there quickly. They should chime in pretty soon. I think BRS has a nice setup, try pm him. Why don't you want to change gears?
