You're right... just re-read the post! But you would think they would have pressed the gear off as well...

Thanks guys. The gear wouldn't budge at all when I applied a little encouragement from a rather large hammer but I was careful not to strike the shaft directly of course. So, NAPA pressed it off (yeah, I went back and he was in a little better mood) and put the new gear on and reused the original bearing... like you said, less than 5 minutes. I gave him $20 and he was happy. Got some 85 weight gear oil. Just waiting on the gasket seals to come in and I'll get this puppy back together and some gps readings!

Oh boy... can I get a ruling on what to fill up the case with? CC guy said 85 weight motor oil. Went to get it and they only make 85 weight in gear oil so that's what I got. So, what should I use and how much? fill 'er up?

I am curious as to the proper lubricant to use as well.

Can someone chime in that knows the correct differential lubricant, and how to properly fill'er up?

Nice, Scuba,
I assume it's the same for 1998 CC. I guess I'm returning the 80w gear oil!

I just changed the fluid on my 1992 Electric CC. After draining, I started the fill with a new quart of 5W-30 (32oz), and a small filler tube that I made to fit into the upper fill plug.

Tedious is an understatement I kept checking the fill line on the oil bottle. At 10 oz remaining, the small filler tube started to back up with oil. I pulled the tube out of the top filler plug, and it wept a little oil, but not much. SO, that means it took 22oz!

That's another maintenance done, now on to the battery cables!

Thanks for the information!
