DS IQ Computer settings
I just acquired a 2006 DS IQ which runs at about 13 MPH. I am told that the IQ system was probably set to a speed limit for the golf course use and that I could have it changed to go faster.
Have I understood this correctly? what are my options for increased speed, say 20-25 mph? I have a reasonable understanding of electronics and was surprised that this cart has only a 250Amp Curtis controler. The batteries, of course, are 3 years old and the wires are about the smalest I would expect, in keeping with the controler's limit. The cart has a full windshield and roof, and I am installing a rear seat kit on it. It will be driven mostly on relatively level paved roads, but may see some hills in grass. Thanks |

Re: DS IQ Computer settings
I asked a similar question a while back and here's the answer I got.....
It can be programed to 19.6 by any cc dealer for a fee. There are 4 settings. 4 being private mode, dealer has to buy a code from cc and input to your cart with there iqdm meter, about $100 to get setting 4. |

Re: DS IQ Computer settings
Thanks, do you know, does the IQ system serve any practical use for a private user? can it be disabled in some easy way?

Re: DS IQ Computer settings
The IQ is the "brains" of the cart that you have and as far as I know the only way to disable it is to change out the motor to a Plum Quick (which will also give you the speed you are looking for - about $300) and/or change the controller to an alltrax (I forget which model it is). I'm not sure how the alltrax controller will affect the speed though, it should get you a little better speed and more torque because it will put out more amps. But I don't think there is a way to disable the IQ system without either of the above options. If you are looking for a performace upgrade to the cart I would recommend changing the motor then the controller if desired and also upgrading the cables to 4 ga.
Hope this helps. Also, rdaystrom is dead on with what he told you above, and the price from the dealer can vary from $100 to $150 depending on the dealer. |

Re: DS IQ Computer settings
I like the idea of 20 mph for a hundred bucks. The hassle of switching the motor to Plum Quick and controller to Alltrax doesn't seem worth it to gain 5mph. That upgrade would be a lot more expensive as well. I'd be thrilled if my Yamaha had the option a hundred dollar upgrade to 20mph. Now if Plum Quick and Alltrax gave you 30 to 35mph it would be a significant speed increase and worth it. I have also read some posts that showed only about 5mph increase with the Plum Quick motor and controller upgrade. There are no guarantees on speed increases.

Re: DS IQ Computer settings
Hello Scababud; looks like a few of your pictures may be of Ft Wilderness? we just got back from a week there with 6 of our 7 kids, which we do at least once a year, in a bus conversion we built what a place!
I'd send you a picture if I knew how! thanks for the comments on Plum Quick, I went to their web site and will send them an email. do they rebuild my motor or what's their deal? I still have a hard time expecting to pull any serious power through a 250amp controler? |

Both of our units are 2006 IQ's and like I mentioned before, I haven't changed out anything except my motor. I will down the road so I can get the more torque at low and mid range and even possibly a bit more speed. Posting pictures is easy, just click on manage attachments. And I go to the Fort at least 6 times a year being a Florida resident makes it easier. |

Re: DS IQ Computer settings
Thanks for your comments Rdaystrom and Butterface,
I think I'd be happy with about 20 mph, at least for a while, however the nearest Club Car dealer I have found on their locater site is 66 miles from here, and i'd have to borrow my son's truck, so with loading and unloading, the drive the wait at the dealer and all that, it's atleast another half a day, whereas a motor swap is a bolt up job in 30 minutes. I would have expected that there was an enterprising Club Car dealer on this forum who would tweek a 'mail-in' IQ system and send it back fixed. the computer looks smaller than a book and I expect in 15 minutes I'd have it out, seems absurd to truck the entire cart 130 miles for a software tweek? Usually some helpful fellow has figured a way around manufacturer's planned difficulties. |

Thanks for the help.
Here's a few pictures of the bus conversion we did as a home school project, finished it ten years ago. |
